I'm pretty athletic, got 16.1 last year.

16.1 is pretty phenominal :thumbsu:

got 9.6 last week carrying a niggling quad and shoulder injury, first year back into footy since 15 (i'm 21 now) so not too dissapointed with the score.

At our footy club were taking the test once a month, so hopefully by the end of the season i can crack mid 12's or low 13's.
Is that a realistic goal or far too optimistic?

That's pretty good seeing as you were injured and haven't played footy for 6 years.

I got my beep test score 3 levels higher by getting it on my iPod and practising everyday for a couple of months, so maybe you could try it. I've always had crap endurance too, so the result was huge for me

yeah, i might look into that particularly for weekends while in the off season. Wouldnt say the injuries were huge could probably have pushed into the low 10's without them.

Sorry muttweed, I ain't buying it. 16.1 would mean you are easily the best woman in Australia at beep tests.
A girl being fitter than every aspiring footballer in the past 20 years? Nah.

^ Sorry Muttweed but I agree
16.1 was the best score and a new record at last year's draft camp.

Sorry, 15.1, (now I look like a liar lol), though I wouldn't be surprised if I got to 16.1 in time, with my body not at its peak of powers yet.

I transferred to a sports college for a year, a few people scored over 14 and I was one of two to score over 15.

Don't mind if you don't believe it, and don't care if you're sexist :)

I've been in interschool comps since I was 9, state running and basketball comps since I was 10, and national athletic comps since I was 12. I'd probably consider myself more athletic than the average aspiring footballer.

Like I said, I am athletic. First time I did beep test, at 11, I got around 7 or 8ish.

Now I keep fit by salsa dancing, 3km daily walks and going to the gym 2x a day.

I know you're not used to hearing of athletic people on a public forum, but I'm telling the truth, and I'm free to give tips/advice to anyone who needs it.

I have a question: how do I get my abs back??

You already answered 2 posts regarding your 16.1 score yet you forgot to mentioned it was a typo?
Anyway, my best measured is 13 something, though I think i could sneak into the 14's at my fittest.

My best is 10.2 but having said that I have never done it since my sinus surgery or my impending jaw surgery that influence breathing. The VO2 max test is different according to my trainer who said people can have an elite VO2 but can fail quite badly at the beep test.

The beep test can be used to predict VO2max. If someone with an elite VO2max were to perform poorly on the beep test it would likely be due to injury, psychological factors or that they are trained in a sport that does not involve running (e.g. cycling or rowing)- however, this is unlikely as I can't imagine many athletes not knowing how to run.

Side note: If someone tests their VO2max in an activity they are unaccustomed to it is called VO2peak not VO2max. For example, the highest VO2max I have heard of is a Norweigan cross country skier who had a recorded VO2max of 96ml/kg/min, however if they were to test their VO2max on a rowing ergometer and score 70ml/kg/min this would be referred to as their VO2peak for that test.

Oi, you told me you have abs! :D

To be precise, yeh.

Got abs?

Got 13,1 the other week. Although I seem to be better at the beep test than I am at other forms of running tbh.

Do you do it with other people?

Maybe it's the competiveness that pushes you harder. I know it certainly did for me.

When I was playing footy and a lot of other sports, if you told me to do a 10km run or 5 laps of a block or 10 laps of an athletics track I'd stop half way because I'd be bored. Put me in a competitive situation and I could go till I spewed or get to the stage where someone would have to drive me home from pre-season in my car because I'd be that weak and shaky in the legs that I wouldn't be able to push the clutch in.

Last time I did a beep test was about 15 - 20 years ago in the Navy, scored high 11s from memory. I have the test on my ipod now so will be doing some more, I quite enjoy the challenge of it.

Indeed I was, and I was also having a bet with a mate seeing who would get the highest. Alas I managed to win which pushed me harder, was stuffed after it but.

PB is 10.11 did it the other day for yr 12 PE and got 9.11 and day before for footy and got a 9.4 (wind was against you running in one way, everyone was knocked out running into the wind)

aiming for 11 by July

(17 years old, around 72kg and 188-190cm)

best was 13.1 when i was in grade 6. at this stage i was training for soccer twice per week, playing schoolyard soccer for an hour an a half per day, playing soccer on the weekends and swimming at squad level.

last time i did it was when i was 14 or 15, managed to get to level 12 or something when my school shoe fell off (forgot my sport uniform that day). was probably a blessing in disguise, was stupid to do the beep test when i was supposed to be resting my knee to get back into my soccer team but i got a bit revved up about a challenge. plus i felt like i was about to throw up blood i was that stuffed so i would've ended up stopping anyway

That doesn't surprise me... It's such a stupid way of testing fitness levels. I can't think of a sport that runs in such a manner.
I dont think its that stupid however it is beginning to be phased out and not used at the higher levels of sport. It involves repeated efforts at different speeds. Im certainly one to do better at the beep test than say a 4km run whereas others are the opposite and this is basically due to some people not having the natural speed to keep up with the beep as long as others, so speed/good accelarating athletes are favoured by the beep although it still is a good representation of VO2 and general fitness.

Id say the MAS test is a good test for football now, pretty similar to the beep test however it is a continued run in the same direction trying to make the beep every 20m.

Or the 30-15 IFT. A test where you have to run a certain distance in 30secs and than get 15 secs rest. Quite a hard test to understant and explain as how far you have to run.
