Does anyone here have a ratings box at their house? Do they still work out ratings that way?
Mate of mine had one years ago. Was a pain in the rear, you had to continually log people on and off as they watched television.

Agree with the topic though. Successive series of Idol and Big Brother convinced me of that.

Yeah my mother-in-law has got one of the rating boxes at her place. Exactly like what you mentioned. Unfortunately she is one of the reasons why Home and Away and Oprah rate well.

Totally agree about shows such as Oz, Sopranos, Shield and Six Feet Under. All quality shows. I havent been in Aus for the last year but am currently watching 'Rescue Me' on Sky in the UK. I dont know whether it is on back home. Its a great watch with heavy doses of action, humour, violence, sex. What more do you want in a show?

The first 2 seasons of Rescue Me have been on Foxtel and the 3rd should be starting in the next few months I reckon. I think Channel Nine had this show but never actually aired it. For anyone who likes The Sopranos, The Shield and Six Feet Under it is well worth going down to JB and picking up the dvds. I think seasons 1 and 2 are around $30-$40 and are well worth it.

Yeah, that's what it comes down to.

Interesting points made. I must admit I have never heard of "The Shield" !! But it sounds good. This is just another example of how we are so blanketed with terrible shows we often miss the good one unless someone points them out to you.

I think the new Ricky Gervais comedy "Extras" is gold as well. It aired here on ABC recently and I've got the DVD's. The moving of Sopranos has really irked me because, on past series alone, it is the best show on TV IMO (even though the first two episodes this seried have been crap) but who the hell can watch at midnight??? I have to get up at 5:30 am for work. Subsequently a great show is missed even by people who want to watch it.

I agree with Friends. The best way to describe it is the least cringeworthy of the American sitcoms, but nowhere near funny.

The Shield is one of the best cop shows I've ever seen, hands down. In a word: gritty. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Channel 10 were airing it for a while, but they took it off the air mid-season some time ago and it hasn't re-appeared. Not holding my breath waiting for it to come back... :(

The guy on the left is wearing a big collar, has dark hair, and a gay arse vest, they should rename this show 'The Emo'

Nah kidding, Sheild rocked. More to add to the list:

Arrested Development
Scrubs
Buffy
Angel

Walton Goggins(funny name!) is the best actor in TV. Steals every scene he is in.
