not good for football at all.
but i guess someone has to do something.
at least they'll save themselves a 10+ goal flogging.
my tip is for Korumburra to win the flag anyway, so when they do, Wonni won't have won either of the last two, so i dont see what all the fuss is about.

Thats a disgrace if true, if they feel that way, why did they not take that stance, in last years Granny, its just not footie.
Reading on another thread that Yarram, will not play against Wonthaggi, this saturday any truth in this rumour ?

I dont think you Ellinbank guys understand how bad the situation is up that way. All 3 clubs (DWWWW, Yarram and Woodside) are struggling to put together teams every week. The small clubs up that way simply dont have the numbers or finances to compete with the bigger towns. I dare say their twos would have forfeited due to lack of numbers even if they were to play. They had many 3rds make up the numbers when we played them and that was a home game and thats not counting the 5 or 6 thats played ones. People who work on Saturdays simply cant get to these games in the Western half.
What comes of this situation will be more interesting than the forfeit result itself. I heard this news at training last night too and the word was that Yarram leave themselves wide open to being sued for loss of income.

Play them tomorrow so ill be able to give a more informed then but id be surprised if they got within 10 goals Wonthaggi

yeah just my sleeper.
noticed that some of the nyora players that they recruited appear to be far better players in the alberton league. ie: tim smith, chris langley. especially smith. was not an overly important player in the nyora side last year & now he is kicking bags of 10 and shit. i'm sure the nyora boys will tell me if i am wrong about this.

Would be a big disappointment for football if it came to this. But it's clear Wonthaggi are punching out of their weight division. They're a very good team all over the park.
Their league is a bit below Ellinbank on the whole, but Wonthaggi are definately a class outfit and would be similarly out of place in Ellinbank.
They really have to go to WGLFL I can't see why they've not been made to already, or really why they wouldn't want to go.

i reckon Cora Lynn vs. Wonni would be an awesome match.
thing is though, if you put them in the WGLFL, they would in no way be able to match it with your warraguls or sales.

If they go back to WGLFL do they split up again? Back to rovers and blues?

There current team would make finals in WGLFL and they have that much cash that they could go and recruit a few superstars and match it with Sale and Maffra. Remember as the Blues they lost 2 GF's to maffra before they went back to the Alberton league.

Was going to say the same thing. Pretty sure most of the players they have are locals. Thrown in a couple of imports, which im sure they could afford and they will give most WGL teams a shake.

Press release from the Yarram Football Club
The Yarram Football and Netball Clubs will forfeit all games against Wonthaggi Football and Netball clubs this Saturday, May 17th. The Clubs have regretfully taken this drastic action in response to the continued ongoing participation of the Wonthaggi Football Club in the Alberton Football League.
It is a matter of public record and accepted by the wider football and sporting communities that Wonthaggi Football Club is unsuited to the Alberton League having far greater human, physical and financial resources than all other Alberton League Clubs. It is impossible for the small clubs to compete against this might and we have grave fears for the short, medium and long term future of several clubs if this unbalanced situation is allowed to continue. Our action is endorsed by the membership of our clubs, the players and many of the Alberton League?s football and netball clubs. We have also received support from football administrators beyond club level. The many expressions of support we have received are indeed gratifying. Whilst our players are disappointed at not playing, as is their nature, they understand and support the bigger and more important issues involved. This decision is not taken lightly and goes against the very fibre of our clubs? hearts, but we are committed to this action for the greater good. It should be noted that we will not be the only Alberton League Club to take this action in season 2008. A clear and immediate resolution to the current untenable solution is required and we hope that this regrettable action will be the catalyst for this outcome.

Every country comp has big towns v small towns. We havent won a flag for 80 years!! Had some big bum kickings in that time too. Unless you want to travel 250ks to a game some times you just have to accept it. On the rare occasions you do beat these big clubs it is very very sweet.

I found this to be the most interesting part of the press release. The Allies, Fish Creek and Toora all play Wonthaggi over the next month who would be the 3 most like other clubs to do it. Tarwin and Stony Creek have been quite vocal regarding the isssue however they have already played Wonthaggi. MDU have said they wont forfeit.
