Great win to get back on track. Epic hilarity at Burnley beating Utd too. It's like twice the fun. But on the game, Gerrard and Torres looked to be back after apparently forgetting that the season actually kicked off last weekend.

Torres was good value for his goal. Gerrard was sensational, his movement and passing set up the first goal and his assist to Kuyt for our third with a sublime touch was freakish. Kuyt worked hard and his link up play with the uber impressive Johnson was fantastic. Johnson was probably MOTM though, his attacking runs were causing chaos. His link up play was great, particularly with Kuyt and he scored a great goal.

Lucas went well, he doesnt have a great passing range but his industry was good and he has bulked up and doesnt get pushed off it as easily as he used to. He also isnt giving away silly free kicks, he is maturing but he still doesnt have that killer ball. Hopefully Aquaman can provide the spraying passes. Masch was Masch and Ayala looked alright down back despite having little to do.

Insua was impressive again but always is and Reina is the early candidate for goalkeeper of the year after another wonder save. As soon as Delap hit that, i though it was in. Then Reina flashed across the goal out of nowhere and kept it out. He's in some form.

Oh and Benny... well it's obvious isnt it. He should start every game when fit. Terrific footballer.

Let's not get carried away though it was Stoke at home, were expected to win that. But we did so in style which was encouraging. Hopefully the opening day loss was a blip on the radar and we can string some results together long enough to bring Aquaman into the fold and see what he can provide.

All I can say is Glen Johnson will be money well spent.
I ABSOLOUTELY LOVE THE BLOKE.

Torres will find his feet as he scores more goals but the most important thing is Stevie G's performance. He had an involvement in the first 3 goals.
He played Brilliant. Lucas was solid but if he could just take some more risks/creativeness into his passing going forward it would benefit.

I like Benayoun, he tried hard and he brings energy into our game. He almost got clear in the box a few times and I like the way he comes in off that left wing. I hope he plays around that area more often.

Reira looks like he has lost a yard. Voronin was ok when he came on same with N Gog.....but he finished well.

How good was PEPE's SAVE!!!!

Good performance and very relieved, was convinced this would be a repeat of last year's draw.

Glen Johnson :) Very impressive so far.

Ah, its pissing down with rain outside and I've had 4 hours sleep, but work doesn't seem that unbearable today. :)

My manager who's a Manc will be copping it this morning after the grief he gave me after the weekend :D

Not sure if it's been mentioned but we have signed another stopper. Sotirios Kyrgiakos, greek international. Even though i thought Ayala was good this morning, it's a good signing.

Sounds like my night. So pumped for the game got to sleep at 12 30.

From the very start we were playing well and I knew we were back to our old ways.

Great summary, jod. :thumbsu: I don't think I really need to add anything to that except for WOOHOO!!!!!! :D

Will Agger be right for Villa?

Ayala did his job, but one shoddy clearance when he should have gone back to reina resulted in a set piece for Stoke...being very picky, but like bassong showed us, it only takes one. He looks like good support though.

Agger wont be right for another 2-3 weeks I read in a report.
The Greek bloke has been signed. Will need to get used to the team though. Wouldnt think they would throw him straight in.

Villa dont look anywhere near as strong as last yr. I hope we smash them 5-0 again.

Don't think so, didn't someone say he was out for 2 weeks?

Kyrgiakos apparently having a medical today, wonder if he'll come in against the likes of Heskey and Carew.

Johnson has looked fantastic these first two games, hope he keeps going. :D

Other than that, everyone else has summed up my thoughts! :thumbsu:

But Man U, lolz.

Liverpool today agreed a deal with AEK Athens for centre-back Sotirios Kyrgiakos, subject to a medical. The 30-year-old Greek international will arrive at Melwood for a medical examination before the weekend.

Rafa Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv: "We have nearly done the deal subject to a medical. He is a player with experience who can hopefully help us in defence.

"He has experience in British football and Rangers. After that with Frankfurt and the national team. He's a good player in the air, strong and aggressive. We were looking for a player with experience.

"He will have the medical this week, it has to be before the weekend."

On how the signing would impact on young centre-backs such as
Martin Kelly and Daniel Ayala, Benitez added: "The young players know they need experience and so to learn alongside people with this experience is better."

Sometimes the best way to get experience is to actually be allowed to play first team football. Signing the Greek is a ridiculous waste of money. And what happens to him after Skrtel and Agger return from injury?

The Kyrgiakos signing is really unnecessary, I reckon. I might have supported bringing another defender who was versatile, quick and able to play in different positions, but Kyrgiakos brings none of that. And it's not like Skrtel and Agger are out long-term. I'd much rather see us give a kid like Ayala a go than bring in another squad waster (eg. Dossena, Voronin, Itandje).

if glen johnson keeps putting in performances like that his price tag will be forgotten. the best thing is he takes players on, not even kuyt, babel and riera do that.

bennayoun surely proved that he should start every game when fit. hopefully he can be a permanent fixture on the left, riera can come off the bench for him, and babel can play on the right as backup for kuyt.

lucas really had worked hard in the off season, ok he is not adventurous and doesnt attempt many creative passes, but the way he tracks back, his tackling has improved significantly and he rarely gives the ball away.

important for torres to get off the mark, stevie G's touch for that third goal made me sick how good it was.

insua was a bit off with his delivery but otherwise was good as he always is.

ayala looked like he was going to shit himself everytime he touched the ball, good to see him not give much away and to get some confidence with a clean sheet in his first game. i was a bit worried we would concede a header from a setpiece with him there, and i think thats why its important rafa brought in kyrgiakos.

good to see riera back, dunno if it was just me but he looked fitter then last season and i expect him to have a much better season then last.

still think we might see another player at anfield before the transfer window closes on sep 1, the last few days when clubs are prepared to sell for less can see rafa making a cheap swoop for an attacking player.

Totally agree with that.
I dunno if its his hair but he looks alot chubbier. Maybe he moved into the same house as Andreas Dossena.
