U23s beat Man United 3-1. Rhys Williams and Bearne (+ own goal) with the goals. Koumetio was stretched off after landing awkwardly from a header.

Team was: Pitaluga, Bradley, Williams, Koumetio (Balagizi), Beck, Morton, Clarkson, Clayton, Bearne, Stewart (O’Rourke), Norris.

Sunday morning watching the Leeds City highlights was the first time I thought we weren't going to catch them. I think they've decided to prioritise the league as the easy kills are there and there only: Leeds, Watford, etc. Fully expecting Real to knock them off Thursday morning.

9 current players in there. James Milner, Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andrew Robertson, Alisson Becker, Sadio Mane, Virgil Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah.

Hard to say not having watched the older generations of players but we are probably witnessing our greatest ever side.

Obviously it’s been a successful season and obviously I’m happy with a CL trophy, but man, if we go all premier league season losing only twice and don’t win? Heart wrenching stuff.

To be close to perfect and to lose again to a team who flaunts financial fair play, ugh tough stuff.

Our answer to Richmonds George Castagna, Alberto Moreno, stiff

It was obvious when we drew with City who was winning the EPL. As for the Champions League, we can beat anyone so we have to make it count.
I’ll be disappointed if we don’t put Chelsea away comfortably at Wembley.

🚨 NEW: James Milner has been offered another contract at Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp asking for the 36-year-old to be given another year’s extension. It seems certain that Milner will sign his new contract, temporarily halting the questions about his future until this time next year. #lfc [telegraph]

Great guy to keep if he's willing. Knows he's not first picked but isn't going to whine and can do whatever job is asked no fuss and be as fit as possible.

Saw this and it's an awful list. This bloke is an editor and co-founder of This Is Anfield and according to that bottom of that article, a lifelong Reds fan. Yet at the beginning of the article he claims we have won 20 league titles and 7 European Cups. Errr....

Then the list itself. Yikes. He has no room for Gordon Hodgson but there is room for James Milner? I mean Hodgson is only 3rd on our all time goal scoring charts and has the greatest goals to games ratio in club history.

8 out of the top 10 goalscorers in our history make his list. Only 10th place Harry Chambers misses out alongside somehow Hodgson?!?

Look I love Milner, he's been a great servant but there is no chance that he makes a top 50 greatest ever Liverpool players. Not only does he make the list, he puts him ahead of Xabi Alonso, Steve McManaman and Steve Nicol... like wtf?

TAA and Robbo for me make the list, but more 40-50 than 32nd and 29th. They are on the rise for sure, but not that high yet, TAA has the time and ability to eventually be top 10.

Alisson the same, he's on the rise but would have him 40-50 range, not 24th. He will finish higher when he is done though.

Love Carra but in no world is he in front of Hyypia, Phil Thompson or Yeats. I'd have him further back around 25th or so, not top 20.

I dont mind Sadio being ranked 16th but in no world should he be in front of God who for some reason finds himself all the way down in 17th? No greatest ever Liverpool players list should ever have Robbie Fowler outside of the top 10.

Alan Hansen at 13th is stupid, he has no business being outside the top 10.

Wouldnt have Mo at 3, he's on the rise but that's too high yet. Suarez at 4 is a tough one too, ability? Sure. Actual career at Liverpool, not really. He's hard to place.

No problem with 1 and 2 and you can change them if you want.

My top 10 would be...

1. Gerrard
2. Dalglish
3. Barnes
4. Rush
5. Souness
6. Fowler
7. Hansen
8. Keegan
9. Suarez
10. Salah

Kenny is no. 1. As a player, but then add manager as well.

this lists always have massive recency bias.

Interesting that they have Suarez so high yet Torres so low.

If only having a short stint at the club doesn't push Suarez down the rankings then I feel Torres should be higher too (defecting to Chelsea my be worthy of pushing him down though).

Gerrard and Kenny are completely interchangable for me. I've no issue with either one being first and the other second and vice versa.

The reason I put Gerrard first was that I grew up on a steady diet of Steven Gerrard and King Kenny was before my time.

Kenny is absolute icon though, not only as a player but as a manager and also for everything he did during the most difficult time in the clubs history. He rightfully has an entire stand named after him.

You have to go by those who saw the older generation play. When those that are old enough to have seen Billy Liddell, Kenny, and Stevie all play and unanimously have those as their top 3 then that is the top 3. Not to mention that I have seen a lot more often than not Kenny being rated as the best ahead of Stevie by those that saw both.

I've never seen anyone in the 80s play due to a small handicap of not being born, so these kinda list are always hard to say for me

The only thing I'd say is that no way Mo is below Suarez, hell I'd have Alisson and Sadio above Suarez
It's interesting with Suarez... considering he spent such a short amount of time with the club.

Only John Aldridge played less games for Liverpool on that top 50 list than Suarez. Aldridge played 104 and Suarez 133. Torres only played 142 as well.

Out of interest why would you have Ali and Sadio in front of Suarez?

It's hard because Suarez shone so bright for a short amount of time. He's right at the very pinnacle for sheer talent to have ever played for the club, up there with Dalglish, Gerrard, Barnes etc for sheer ability. But Sadio and Ali have been a part of a more successful team and are world class footballers in their own right who have been doing it for longer.

Ali has 177 appearances so far with many more to come and Sadio is on 263.

So you rank Suarez on pure ability or deduct him for only playing 3 and a half season. Tough one.

Good post. For me it’s always Kenny but he kept me warm through a difficult childhood. His success was also incredible in relative terms.

I do value players who have been with the club longer and built up a bigger CV with Liverpool

Alisson is one of those rare keepers that wins games with his saves consistently, the amount of times he end up being the difference in games is unreal. I think he is easily winning us +15-20 points every season, along with a longer career with Liverpool, I put him above Suarez on that personally

Same kinda logic with Sadio, the guy has scored 20+ goals too many times for Liverpool, and all of that out wide. We don't talk about his record enough because Mo's record slightly overshadows his but what Sadio does out wide is crazy.
