One last thing on Trent - he's a very similar age now to when Gerrard was when he very almost went to Chelsea. I think Trent knows this next decision pretty much defines the rest of his career.

Yep. Another thing - Trent's still young enough to sign a 5 year deal with us, complete that contract then try something else in his early 30s.

I really hope we are offering him the captaincy once Virg leaves written into his contract.

My expectation is the club puts 300k/week total package (220k basic + 80k bonuses) on the table over 5 years. 10m signing bonus over 5 years (2m a season).

All up that's a 90m pound contract over 5 seasons, playing for his boyhood club, representing his people being captain once VVD leaves which he will do so within the next 2-3 years if he also extends his contract. Trent will be young enough at the end of that contract (31) to pursue playing overseas on a huge final payday if he still harbored desire to do so. And if that's how it worked out I am sure the club and all fans would wish him the best after giving what would be then 13 years senior football service to the club.

I'm afraid if a deal like that isn't convincing Trent then the club really needs to move on with alternate plans.

Feels like Chiesa was signed as a token gesture to say FSG did something last transfer window. Won't be seen unless we have a real injury crisis up front. Don't blame him if he wanted to go back to Italy

Top of the league, playing away to the bottom team of the table, got a Liverpool banana skin written all over it
Potentially, this year's comp is more even than most. That said I'm predicting a measured 2-0 victory.

Fabian Mrozek's half season loan at Brommapojkarna in the Swedish league is done. 5 appearances, no cleansheets.
Jakub Ojrzynski was also recalled from Spartakos Kitiou in the Cypriot league due to an admin error, no appearances.

Endo started in Japan's 3-1 win vs China.
Gakpo and Gravenberch made sub appearances in Netherlands 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Mamardashvili started in Georgia's 2-1 loss to the Czech Republic.
Bajcetic started in Spain U21's 2-1 win vs Denmark.

Szoboszlai scored a pen in Hungary's 1-1 draw with Germany.

Nunez subbed off at half-time of Uruguay's match against Brazil. I could be wrong and I hope it is tactical, but Nunez doesn't normally get subbed off for Uruguay, at least not that early. If he has picked up an injury we are trouble in terms of our striking options. We could be seeing more of Diaz/Gakpo leading the line.

Again this is just me speculating, no news as of yet given the sub happened literally 10 minutes ago. So hopefully it was a tactical sub.

According to Sporting News: "You have to wonder if that's a tactical decision, or if the free-kick Nunez took straight to the forehead had some lingering effects. Liverpool will have some concerns."
