Yeah he was excellent for the time he was with us. Not quite sure why we sold him. We had FSG onboard by that stage, surely we weren't that desperate for cash. Flipping Torres was the best businesses of the mid season window as unpopular as it was at the time.
Damage was done by the time FSG came on board, Mereiles had his head turned by Chelsea and was committed to getting out. Similar exit to when we lost Yosi to them

There has to be an alternative universe out there where Torres stays to partner Suarez, recapturing his best form and they go on to do great things together for us.

We flipped Torres and Babel for Carrol and Suarez, don't think we would have bought Suarez without the Torres cash

Torres was spent by the time we flogged him off. It was the right if unpopular call by FSG to get rid.
I remember Carragher saying something similar recently.

IIRC Suarez was already incoming when we sold Torres. I remember being excited about the potential partnership.

I remember Suarez stating that he was excited to play with Torres, little did he know he'd be sold a few days after.

Further to my post yesterday, it does seem there is a little bit of luck with the UCL knockout rounds. There will still be a draw but it will be limited. This graphic illustrates it best:

Screenshot was taken while City were leading PSG. City now in 25th (all they need to do to make it is beat Club Brugge at home), Celtic are now in 18th.

This just adds to the ridiculousness of the needless changes to the UCL. There was no problem with the old format.

It's a stupid format to shoehorn another few games in.

For 6 months in 2010 we had Cancer & aids owning the club and Woy managing the club.

Don't think it's ever going to get much worse.............
Guess the year that I arrived in Liverpool and started supporting the club.

It was grim times back then. I didn't even get the Rafa era beforehand.

Did the predictor and it could end up being this.

Imagine any top 6 club having a summer window like this

It says a lot that the biggest success in this window was Meireles who was flipped to Chelsea in January and Brad Jones who was a backup keeper.

This readds more like the transfer business of a promoted championship club at the time.
Damn we must have been rolling in the money back then.

15 years later and our window is 10mil on Chiesa. And -25mil net spend.

All this 15th to 18th is redundant isnt it. Dont we get a free pass into the last 16 for finishing top 8. I actually have nfi how this format works haha
Yeah it's about who we could face in the round of 16. Those 4 teams.

Collymore basically won Man Utd the league after we tried to hand it to them from Blackburn the year before. Had Newcastle won that game they would've gone to the last day a point in front - probably would've still choked it though
