When you consider Laura Tingle who was directly involved in this whole omnishambles and is now on the board of the ABC, then its no wonder that her ABC is desperate to play the 'look over here' card.
Did Media Watch mention her involvement by any chance or even post a disclaimer?

Laura Tingle was not directly involved, she received a copy of Higgins complaint to the AFP.

Nothing to see here.

  • Brittany Higgins leaked her complaint against AFP to the ABC
  • Ms Tingle said: 'Oh Britt. I'm so sorry ... How f***ing outrageous'

She was texting BH in person. How can you say she was not directly involved?
She was in it up to her armpits as was Amy Remeikis from The Guardian and a number of others.

And all of them (Wilkinson, Tingle, Remeikis, Maiden) fell for the same loopy conspiracy theory that somehow there was a cover-up. Its very difficult to have such a high opinion of yourself and be that stupid but these 4 all managed it.

They should be burying their heads in embarrassment frankly.

Exactly what to expect from Media Watch.
That goes for most of the ABC echo-chamber. It should be a subscription service now - completely unfair and undemocratic to expect people who it in no way represents, supports or benefits, who very often are also those who can least afford it, to pay for it. Same goes for SBS (or just pull the public funding).

So what she was texting a rape victim BH? Would you expect Tingle to ignore her?
Have a read of the messages. They are not one of an impartial journalist.
She was involved in all this shenanigans and did nothing to investigate the claims of a political cover-up. Instead she willfully went along with it.

In any case, Media Watch should have had a disclaimer up on their show last night given she is now an ABC Board member.

I can envision it now, someone comes to MPM with a story of sexual assault.

MPM replies: 'I don't wish to be involved'.
That is not the point.
Tingle was involved and now she is a current board member of the ABC (effectively Media Watch's boss). There should have been a disclaimer so the audience could assess whether Media Watch itself was biased when it came to pointing fingers at rival media organisations.

As usual, this discussion probably too high level for most on here to understand.

You're being very misogynistic.

Post reported.

LOL - Lehrmann and his lawyer Steven Whybrow were offered a settlement from Ten and Ms Wilkinson and refused:

"In support of an indemnity costs order, Ten also argued that Lehrmann had unreasonably rejected a “walk away” offer in August last year under which the proceedings would have been dismissed without any admission of liability and without any costs order."

Two days after Federal Court justice Michael Lee found former Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann had r*ped his then-colleague Brittany Higgins in a ministerial office, their former boss Linda Reynolds sat down to dinner with The Australian’s Janet Albrechtsen at Fremantle Italian joint Vin Populi. The pair, who played their own side roles in this sad affair, had been at a conference organisedby conservative think tank The Institute of Public Affairs out west, along with Lehrmann’s former barrister Steven Whybrow, who told attendees he’d yet to even read Lee’s judgment

Bloody ABC and Tingle! Outrageous!

I hope it was a good hat he went back for.

Was this yet another leak from the AFP or Lehrmann to the media?

How did they get text messages between Higgins and Tingle?

Steven Whybrow SC chose to represent Bruce Lehrmann in his rape trial on a no fee basis. Then went on to represent him in his defamation action.

If it was his legal advice that led to Lehrmann refusing to settle with Ten then imho he was paid what he was worth.

They did.
I'm still waiting on their coverage of Angus Llewelyn's atrocious behaviours in allowing for things like a reasonable right of reply.

Also, Justice Lee brought up the MEAA Code of Ethics on a number of occasions, to which Network 10's lawyers said the journalists at The Project don't subscribe to any code of ethics.

Media Watch did slam Network 10 though (including on last night's episode), so they haven't ignored them. Needs a bit of deeper analysis though IMHO.

On Tuesday the federal court released the parties’ submissions on costs, which Lee will consider ahead of a hearing on costs scheduled for 1 May.

Ten told the court that Lee found Lehrmann would have known when he filed for defamation “that he had r*ped Ms Higgins”.

The submission, prepared by Dr Matt Collins KC, argued it was an abuse of process because Lehrmann came to the federal court seeking substantial damages when he knew the allegations he complained about were true.

“In summary, Mr Lehrmann brought this proceeding on a deliberately wicked and calculated basis,” Ten said.

“He put Network Ten to the cost of defending this proceeding, which can be, with the benefit of hindsight, described as a clear abuse of process aimed at concealing the truth that Mr Lehrmann r*ped Ms Higgins.”
The network also argued the Ben Roberts-Smith v Fairfax decision in a previous defamation action had set a precedent for an applicant being ordered to pay indemnity costs because they abused the legal process in bringing the claim.

Go straight to hell, Bruce… go straight to hell.
Lehrmann is facing his own truths now with charges for other rapes still pending.

But the people who excused and supported his heinous behaviour across commercial and social media platforms like this one are still out there.

Still victim blaming.

They’ll be at it again when the next high profile rape victim dares to make take her trauma public. Nothing surer.
