here is a snippet from afl .comIn bad news for the Kangaroos and their experiment with games in Canberra, the match attracted just 7,222 people, the smallest since regular games started in the national capital in 1998.

how much money do we make from that?

i know we have some sort of guarentee but when are we gonna play games like this in melbourne, the doggies and ourselves for that ,atter do not have large memberships so taking them out of thier comfort zones is not gonna give us large crowds.

this should of been played at telstra dome where we would of got some sort of crowd and income.

We would have got about 25,000 at Telstra Dome. That is just break even if that.

As sad as it sounds, we probably made a profit from the 7,000 there today, so it was better for the bean counters and hence our future.

That's not counting the money we get paid to play games up there.

Agree.

If I had my way we would play all home games in Melbourne. And we would put more of an emphasis on the North Melbourne name. And, of course, change the song back.

It certainly doesn't enhance North Melbourne's image to see the players running around in front of such a pitiful crowd.

But then it all comes down to finances, doesn't it? I gather that North make more money playing games in front of 7222 people than they would have playing in front of 20,000 at Telstra.

i just couldn't understand why we played games so close together there. to get back to canberra is a bit of an effort. a reasonable number of supporters from sydney turn up to those games and its almost a three hour drive and then there's going home. we probably got a similar number in the preseason game when it was around 40 degrees.

Poor result, I would rather play these games on Monday nights at the Dome with the view of being long term Monday night specialists. The AFL will make a packet for the extra TV exposure, and we expose our sponsors. There might be less at the gate on a Monday night, but lets face it, the money is in TV and we should be able to work a deal with the AFL that’s mutually beneficial.

And here's an idea! When Monday night games became a raging success, the AFL could schedule Essendon and Collingwood to play their home games then, instead of North.

play them at arden st if were pushing for profit.

i know we get guarenteed $$ but the crowd support helps win games. its not a home ground advantage,

Of course we would have to have some sort of long term guarantees to stick our necks out again.

A Melbourne based team playing home games in Canberra.

North should either move all of there home games in Canberra and be called Canberra Kangaroos or then play all of our 11 home games in Melbourne. Sometime I wonder if there is brain at North Melbourne.

And I dont care what other clubs do playing there home games interstate so dont use that with me

Have A Nice Day:confused:

At the moment there are over a thousand Canberra members - I'd imagine that number will continue to grow in the next couple of years. North make a profit and grow their membership out of these games. Definitely worthwhile.

You have a good point there but I think it pi$$es North supporters off who miss out on home games in Melbourne that they can go to. And when no one bothers turning up in Canberra you have to wonder just what is the point of it all.

While I understand that its hardly as if Melbourne based fans are starved of football. The 3 games up here are the best chances i have for getting to north games so I am biassed. While the 7000 fans was dissappointing we did get nigh on 15000 fans against the swans.

if the roos came home and played those 3 games back in melbourne we would probably recoup the 1000 members plus more, many people do not buy memberships as they do not consider them value for money.

It is these bastards that p*ss me off more than anything else & wonder why we play games interstate, even when we have matches in Melbourne like against Adelaide in Round 1 people don't turn up. If people keep up this attitude & not buying memberships because of this poor excuse we will either be up to Canberra for good or goodbye for good simple as that.

Another thing you people didn't consider the poor weather up there, if it was a fine day this game would easily have got 10,000 plus. Like I said before I have nothing against playing games in Canberra as long as we don't play more than 6 games interstate. This year we play 7 interstate games, so in my opinion we should not play in either Sydney or Brisbane later in the year.

I do think the AFL need to look at what teams we play up there though, this game should of been played in Melbourne just like the Sydney match & our matches against Port Adelaide, West Coast & Fremantle in the future should be played up in Canberra.

maybe. I know that my memberships would then have next to no value.

just to let you know i do have one and its a 15 home game membership.

im in melbourne

I hadn't finished what I wanted to say mighty mick before. Anyway I'm not having a go at you because you are a member but I know there are a lot of people that think that way & use things like this as an excuse. They think we are playing games interstate so this is a good excuse not to support the club. I bet if it was 1993 to 2000 though these buggers would be getting memberships though. I am sick of them, if we do go or relocate these bastards have only got themselves to blame. We hear it all the time you need at least 25,000 members to be competative & yet people like me & you carry these pr*cks who don't pitch in for the club.

All it is, is excuses mate, just like pric*s not buying memberships because Carey & Deni$ have gone.
