Opinion The 'Carlton related stuff that doesn't need it's own thread' thread Part 3

Yes of course we are unhappy with the start. If Voss losses the next 12 or so sure he’d be done. So many what ifs…i have faith that we can turn it around! Why peak in April? Also we have been leading and well in games up ent 3rd quarter.

While there's time to turn it around, the messaging from the club will naturally be conservative and positive.

Would have to agree that if by the second half of the season we've only notched 2-3 wins, then the drums will start to beat a different tune. If finals are effectively off the table, then getting a head start in the search for a new coach becomes key, as does making some changes to selection policy and gameplan with a view to the future.

I don't understand how you could make prognostications with such certainty at this time of the year.
What if Harry returns this week, our system clicks because our forwards are clunking marks and kicking goals, we win against our arch rivals and that kickstarts our season leading to a top 4 finish.

There's hardly going to be mass changes to the coaching staff or playing list off the back of a season like that.
I think the club would be sniffing out possible replacement coaches, including Head Coach. If a very strong candidate presents, then do it, but not mid season.
There's plenty of evidence over the past 3 years that Voss's crew can't consistently keep the players performing at 90% to 100%.
He should have been on a yearly contract since his last one expired.

You just need to look at the little snippet footy classified played last night when Wright was interviewed about hiring M’crae at the pies.
Shows what he’s looking for in a coach and why Voss was overlooked for that job

We've got a strong core, we just need to build it out with better role players to support and pinch hit at times.

Just look at Adelaide, nailed their off season recruits with Neale-Bullen, Peatling and Cumming. There's no reason we can't do the same.
Yes there is, we do not have the draft capital or salary cap for those types of acquisitions.

On the other hand, that improvement can easily come from within. I actually believe it will.

Jagga Smith
Harry O’Farrell
Ben Camporeale
Lucas Camporeale
Ashton Moir
Matt Carroll
Hudson O’Keeffe

and possibly
Harry Charleson
Billy Wilson
Will White
Matt Duffy
Harry Lemmey

Apologies
Jaxon Binns who has so many positive traits, but doesn’t fit the bill on disposal grounds. Had deficiencies at draft time in that area and it has not improved unfortunately. Same reason I am not as high on Billy as some others are, but he is closer.

The blokes listed above have a great many traits we are lacking. A massive development year is ahead. I will add that we have made some quality additions to the VFL squad, likely in order to give us a better development vehicle.

If you can identify three overpriced, injury prone players, then Carlton is interested.

Collingwood's process was three months and ours ended up being rushed post finals. Pies rejected Voss though he was in the final four, Kingsley was the runner-up.

Voss was hired by Cook, Sayers and Lloyd which may all be gone by the end of the year and Wright led the process that rejected him at the pies. Surely Voss's days are numbered if we don't make finals?

I think we look a bit like the Pies in the final year under Buckley, despite the deep respect the players have for the coach they have lost trust that our game plan will win games.

Voss needs to turn it around ASAP. I hope he can do it but I lack belief.

PS Wrights understanding of Voss weaknesses could help improve our choice of assistants for 2026 if we stick with him.

There is, its money, and draft picks, we have very little of both.

Not exclusively TDK, but clubs will be doing their due diligence on a number of players, especially since we have a number who are out of contract at year's end. Some interest is genuine and others just try to inflate player's salaries endeavoring to create a cap squeeze.

But there's players like Motts and Kemp who have appeal, even someone like Pitt would fill a need for a number of clubs.

Personnel changes happen every year, at least on the playing side.

I can't see how we improve ourselves in the off-season, without trading a big name.

Coaching changes are a given, but it feels like that will be shuffling deck chairs a little bit. Maybe we can get a Simpson or Longmire as Director of Coaching.
Hinkley is odds on to come across to Princes Park as Director of coaching IF Voss remains.
