What a contrast!
29 here tomorrow and next week looks a stinker (for our standards) maybe a couple of 30+ degree days.

Then after that maybe Autumn will set in.
Its OK. 30 in Hobart, its probably 10 if you go up the mountain. Might even still be snow there (although it didn't look like there was any when I was in 'norky on Saturday).

So summer is officially over now.

http://www.weatherzone.com.au/news/autumn-equinox/526050

The sun is about to move over the northern hemisphere and we won't get it back for another six months.

This evening in Australia will mark the autumnal equinox, when the sun passes directly over the equator on its way north. This passage occurs just before 9:30pm Sydney time and close to 6:30pm in Perth.

Australia will soon be on the downhill run into winter as days become shorter than nights. This starts to happen a few days after the autumnal equinox due to effects relating to the size and shape of the sun and the refraction of light in our atmosphere.

The sun will venture back over the equator on 23rd September, although Australia has a whole winter to get through before then.

So more on average March temps this week and some much needed rain.
Still currently 2.8 and 3.3 degrees above March averages for minimum and max temps respectively.
Seems to be the story across all of the Australian cities and towns.

Seems to be a decent cold air field that could move over Tassie, Victoria and NSW around March 30/31.

Currently 15.1 degrees here, overcast and we should have some rain later on today/tonight.

Woo! Bring on Spring :)

What's spring like in Vancouver mate?

I'm glad Autumn is here properly now, i like seeing the leaves fall it's kinda pretty despite it's actually plants dying lol.

Some photo's of Autumn in Tasmania.

Parts of Tassie are probably similar. Those photos look like they could be from here.

I tend to say every season is about 10 degrees colder than Melbourne. Winter is around 2 compared to 12, Summer is 27 instead of 37. The rain slows down in Spring and it's around high teens/low 20s for the most part. Only going to be around 12 this week.

Dat crunch of leaves underfoot sounds so good.

Only reached a max of 16-17 degrees here today, sun didn't come out.
Was overcast and rainy all day.

Got 10.2 mm out of it down here.

Looks like the next few days will be under 20c for max temp.
Monday max was 18.9
Tuesday max was 16.5
Today and thurday, friday only supposed to reach 18c.

Currently 14 degrees and completely cloudy.
Good to have a bit of cold air around after the stinker last week.

Going for a run of 5 days with maximum under 20c first time since October/November last year.

Dipped to 9.0 degrees this morning.
Expected to reach 19c today, currently 13.7

Yep that seasonal drop off point is about to come into full swing across the southeast of the country.

Here's Melbourne as well

The autumn see-saw is in full swing across Australia's southeast this week.

The second cold front in three days will sweep over South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania on Wednesday.

Warm northerly winds ahead of the front will strengthen during the morning before a cool and blustery southwesterly change. This change is due to reach Adelaide in the early afternoon then Hobart and Melbourne in the evening.

Temperatures are likely to drop by 5-10 degrees in the space of 24 hours from this change. For example, Melbourne is forecast to reach 27 degrees tomorrow and just 17 on Thursday, while Hobart could go from 23 to 17 degrees.

Showers will accompany the front, although thunderstorms will be limited and severe storms are unlikely.

Tomorrow's change comes after another front brought damaging winds and severe thunderstorms to the region on Monday. This is the time of year when cold fronts typically increase in frequency and strength as we approach winter.

Broke a 61 year record with up to 90mm of rain in parts of the city yesterday. More of the same today. I'm going to have to start taking vitamin D supplements!

Wow, quite a drink there!

I heard that parts of Canada and the US actually have vitamin D put into the milk.
Is this true?

Currently 14.3 degrees here, got 4.8mm of rain with the cold change last night.
Down to 6 degrees tonight.

Yeah, there are all types of different milk products around. Not sure I've seen that though. It's pretty common here for people to take vitamin D drops or gums. Or they just head south with the birds to Palm Springs, Arizona, Mexico, Cuba etc.

Yeah that makes sense, a lot of places in North America don't see the sun very much at all in winter.
I was reading an article about Seattle how they only had 3 sunny days from October-March this past winter.

Was tempted to put the heater on before but didn't as i was probably being soft :p

Seattle is only a couple of hours away. You're right. I heard on the radio earlier that it rained 26 out of 29 days here in March. One of the wettest months on record. It's a rainforest and the sunny days make up for it - whenever they arrive.

You never know. It's 10 and pouring here. This time last year I was enjoying a sunny day on the beach in 23 degrees.
