Jeez, it must be tough drawing 40 thousand to a team from another state.

Oh shit thats right we do that every week.
So do we actually......Well, except for the odd occassion in which we drop under 40K due to shit weather or some other circumstance. We actually drew over 50K against both Adelaide and West Coast last year, nice try though.

One of my reasons for not renewing was the blowing up of $6m on the pubs, just reckless and stupid and if anyone is going to waste my money it is going to be me.

very good point. i thought about this back when the news was released and thought that had it been essendon, i definately wouldnt renew.

Other clubs don't realise how far the 'club' in terms of social club, training ground and prices have lost alot of Collingwood people, it may only be starting to show this year and beyond with the recession. And before people say we have record members, if you count a 3 game $70.00 package as a member or a normal social club member that's where the figures might be coming from.

Lots of very good points. Personally I feel the clubs focus has been purely on the corporate side at the neglect of the rank and file. They tried to amend this with the membership campaign this year but there is nothing to excite the fan base at the moment. A coach who has not won a flag for 15 years, no elite players and a shitful game plan.

The club needs a fundamental change in direction on and off field but I fear that those fans who can see this are walking away whilst the faithful majority continue to believe the spin.

You both are right.

I didn't renew my membership because I simply can't afford it and have returned to uni (and moved to Canberra) after becoming a victim of the global financial crisis.

I could scramble $300 - $400 to get a membership if I desperately wanted to, but it infuriates me that Collingwood would substantially increase membership prices, and impose stringent rules on the cheersquad during the worst economic crisis in 70 years. The club has lost all sense of compassion and is distancing itself from the community that has made it so for over 100 years in the search for corporate bling.

Anyway, this is probably drifting into a topic that should be on the Collingwood forum.

But no doubt a combination of reasons mentioned in this thread (disenchanted Collingwood supporters by a wayward leadership, new AFL rules, global recession) is responsible for the decline in Collingwood crowd numbers.

I think you will find all clubs (Except for Carlton) crowds are all down! Carlton are drawing vewry good crowds but that is due to being out of the 8 for the last 7 years! it is not Just Collingwood look at Essendon who only drew a Crowd of 27,000 at Docklands!

Once again you raise a meaningless point, in both '07 and '08 we broke the all time attendence record. It's the same team, it has nothing to do with being 'starless' or 'stagnant', there is a greater reason as to why Collingwood fans aren't showing up this year and it's largley the clubs own fault.

By the way, to those Collingwood fans above, our $75 3 game membership isn't counted in our official membership tally. Or so says Eddie.

Having read through most of this thread I find several Magpies essentially agreeing with my point that your list is short of Big Name marquee players ( this is a fact ) and that you are regarded as becalmed adn going nowhere onfield. ( another fact ).

There really is no need to be defensive. All clubs have thier problems, especially mine. The above 2 mentioned are problems your club has at the moment.

On the point that AFL "needs2 Collingwood drawing crowds to be healthy. That is untrue. Through the decades Collingwood have frequently been knocked of the perch of top draw by a variety of clubs and that will happen again in future years as well. Collingwood are a great club, a powerhouse but really are not that far ahead of the pack - well the rest of the Big 4 at any rate - to be Essential. Their figures in recent years have been superb but they have been finalling regularly. With the same fixtures in the same venue any of the Big 4 would average in excess of 50,000 if finalling regularly as Carlton may well show this year so.

I had an old school friend play in the game at half time on Thursday night, for those who don't know the boys that participated were disabled in some way. I heard from the guys brother that the boys were being taunted at the station after by a group of Pies fans, with them getting in some of their faces. This is just discgraceful, I know its just not only Pies fans who may act this way and I'm sure many people get the occasional laugh out of people like this - Something that I dont condone at all and hate, I had an Uncle who recently passed away with a disability - But I know it goes on, but to get in the boys face and mimic their stuttering is something I cannot fathom these guys should be ashamed, shows the mentality of some really

I don't have a problem with you raising this as I agree it is disgraceful, but it would be best to put this in one of the threads talking about the bad behaviour of football crowds, rather in this one, which is predominantly about the dissappointing size of the Collingwood crowds in 2009.
