I think Usman only gets in if we are in trouble ( unlikely )
Gut feel is they if we win this test they will give Harris another test .

Then Street next in line possible for a dead rubber or two if required

You're probably right with Harris - but he is everything that is wrong with Australian cricket. Favourites get chance after chance after chance despite plenty of blokes making runs at domestic level.

He most likely is a very good shield player and not up to test level .

Its no different to guys adjusting up a level in AFL. How long do you give them before you cut them loose ?

Plenty of guys eg S.Waugh took time to adjust up a level .

Reality is he is best of the bunch right now but dare say by series end he is moved on.
Unless he makes a few

Not disagreeing with you at all. The Poms, on the other hand, keep changing their openers every series or two. Hasn't got them anywhere.

I was starting to panic towards the last few hours. Sides seem to do their best to infuriatingly play for draws against us - but credit to our bowlers. The pace bowling stocks are very similar to the glory days of the 2000s when you’d have test level players who couldn’t force their way into the test side. Starc has earned back his spot also so will be interesting to see what happens with Richardson if Hazlewood gets fit for Boxing Day.

Hard to change a winning formula but Harris has to make way for mine. You can’t carry an opener who just doesn’t look at all comfortable at the level. There’s plenty of blokes making runs at shield level - get the best bloke under 25ish to open with Warner.

Given the squad for the rest of the series hasn't changed it looks like they are sticking with Harris for the time being (not that I agree with it)

Oh I’m fully anticipating the selectors will flog this dead horse until it is almost grainular. My constant criticism of CA - some get shown infinite patience whereas others get dropped as soon as they fail.

If the series wasn't 2-0 and was say 1-1 I think Harris would get dumped, but as it is I think they'll persist not that I agree with it.

If it was me I'd go
IN
Usman
Cummins
Hazelwood

OUT
Harris
Neser
Jhye

His age concerns me but Usman should get a go based on form. His weakness against spin is hardly going to be an issue against this English side at the G.

Agree with your sentiment overall completely mate, I really wish Puc didn't have all these concussion issues.

If series was up for grabs I think selectors would blink and Usman comes in .

Think theyll give Harris another 2 , then maybe make the change for the dead rubber .

It’s the one issue I have with the BBL being on while the tests are - blokes who get a good start to the season don’t get a chance to continue to press for selection while tests are on. Would prefer the BBL maybe start after the Boxing Day test to allow for shield players to get another round or two in to apply pressure to underperforming players in the test side.

Absolutely but sadly T20 cricket dominates a lot of modern day cricket, which I absolutely hate being more of a purest.

Its the golden goose for CA and the reality is its getting more people to play cricket right through the grades .

Ideally shield would have had matches going alongside tests .
We miss that right now, we could have a really inform opener ready to go who has 6-8 innings for the season.
But they havent played enough .

Its easier stay in because the guys who could press to get in arent playing .

Well another Ashes done and dusted with England down and out.

Started with playing the first Test in Brisbane which provides such a great home team advantage.

Brings me back to last summer's series vs India which we lost.

The Brisbane Test was the 4th Test in the Series not the first like usual.

Have always wondered but haven't heard or read anything questioning this decision (that said haven't actively searched) but did the Australian Cricket Board cave in to the Indian Cricket Board sway and power? If I was coming to Australia, Brisbane would be the last place I would want to start a tour.

So much for that taking up my Tuesday...what a bowling performance.
Oh boy, wasn't it.

I remember the corresponding game 35 years ago when we were hideously outplayed and lost by an innings and 14 runs. Today was the payback.

Wouldnt have made a difference but yes CA did cave to the BCCI , not for the first nor the last time
