Thank you for recent answers re the Businessman. Very enlightening and helpful! I might need to ask more questions.

I've recently stumbled across a very local ad in my very little neck of the woods. A retired fellow is offering his services repairing antique clocks.
He tells a bit about himself and his experience in the business. Some details are uncannily and strikingly similar. Of course the name is different, as it would be.

Did the Businessman have an interest in model planes?

Your last question reminded me of something that's stuck with me ever since I heard the Debi Marshall podcast on Derrance Stevenson.

Neil Muir's family who were interviewed as part of that podcast mentioned in the weeks before his murder, he was seen to be wearing an expensive-looking antique style ring. They didn't know where it came from or how he got it but when his body was found the ring was never found within any of the bags.

Has the businessman always focused solely on antique clocks or was there a time he was operating a general antiques business with a focus on clocks and clock repair? Or could he possibly know other antique dealers who could've got that ring? The whole thing just seems very suspicious with the timing. Neil getting a ring that he probably couldn't have afforded on his own that disappears following his murder. And one of the persons of interest in his murder is an antiques dealer. The obvious conclusion to draw would be that the ring could in some way be connected back to the businessman and from there his connections to von Einem whose name had been put forward to police already

His early 70s business/trade was as a ‘watchmaker’. In business directories of that era, ‘watchmakers and jewellers’ were a single category. Was this mere convenience or was it common for such businesses to deal in both timepieces and jewellery type pieces?

I have a vague recollection (that I can’t quite place now), that the businessman had a sex toy shop at one stage? That maybe it was upstairs at whichever premises he was in at the time?

On the topic of the businessman and his business interests, has there been a discussion of Lorna von Einem somewhere in the past 3494 posts?

Without checking, there has been a few mentions along the way if I recall correctly.

What’s your angle with her?
Her loan to the businessman, the address of the house she owned and lived in, and wondering how close her husband’s side of the family was to Bevan’s.

A relative of mine saw his mother as a visiting medical professional at a nursing home in the inner North East, she would have been in her 80's. They said she had changed her surname, the nurses insinuated her connection, however she liberally stated her connection and that she had changed her name. They said she was a very nice lady, and very friendly and said she was of an English background.

There are quite a few references to her in First Blood and the DM book. She moved house regularly with BVE and they shared the house he was arrested at and where the forensic evidence confirmed Kelvin had been present. Day St in Paradise from memory. There’s a YouTube clip that visits the house in the present day.
I haven’t been aware of any alleged loan to the businessman, by her. That’s intriguing - especially the timing and the value of it?

You're thinking of Thora, his mother.

Lorna is married to the grandson of Bevan's great-grandfather's brother. Two brothers emigrated around 1850. Each had lots of kids. The non-Bevan line seems far wealthier, as they lived in the inner eastern suburbs and got mentioned in the social/sporting pages a lot. (Not the Norwood football club connection - that was a direct cousin on Bevan's side, although the man I've seen referred to as an 'uncle' that also played in an earlier era is in fact from this other side.)

Lorna (in a consortium with specified others) loaned money to the businessman to buy his current premise in 1979 and held successive mortgages until July 1984. She did this on a number of mortgages to other people as well, so I'm assuming it was a way of investing in those days. If someone on here was an accountant or in finance in the 70s and is familiar with how private mortgages were arranged (that's before my time), please message me and explain how this worked.

Lorna also owned a house and lived in the same street (a couple of doors down) as a unit that's been discussed previously as a place that boys were taken. It could just be two coincidences, but, hey, maybe not.

Hence my question: did Bevo have much to do with distant cousin Lorna?

I recently read Richard Shepherd's book, Unnatural Causes. Richard was a prominent UK forensic pathologist from the 1980s onward. (Remember where Manock came from?) He writes of the 'alpha of alpha males' culture of forensic pathology and the performance-oriented nature of the presentation of findings. He also explains in quite a bit of (very readable) detail about the difficulties of interpreting bruising (apparently new bruises can appear post-death and can be difficult to distinguish from those pre-death unless you've taken careful and quality photographs as close as possible to the time of death) and the challenges of determining time of death when a body has been frozen or immersed in water. All very interesting.

Much of what he said made me wonder about what Charlie said he was told about Alan's bruising. It also raised a whole heap more questions about the freezer cases - Derrance, obviously, but possibly also Richard Kelvin.

Interesting!
Yes, apologies but I did confuse the two names. Nonetheless it is an interesting line of inquiry you have going there and future updates are anticipated with interest !

You are now all starting to see the bigger picture in all this . As a lot of you have seen there where more then one group and it involves a lot of things as I call them .

Those involved in the killings were a close nit group the other groups were rapping boys that had been drugged . The names are all there to be seen now and that to me is what I wanted . Brown is one I wanted people to know as he lived next door to Don Dunston . The gay grater community knew who was involved in all this as at the time the gay community was smaller in Adelaide then today .

**

As far as Alan goes as I have said he was a kid ( heterosexual) kid at that and was innocent of what happened to him as was all the victims in this .

Have a deeper look at what happened to Salisbury and what he was investigating at the time he was sacked and you will see why this case is so messy .

Preacher has been talking about Alan in Elizabeth and the people that say they seen him there . As I pointed out to him the people who have said this were not 100 % on day nor week and said Alan was on his own .

Have fun digging up what you can and thanks to all that have been looking so hard !!!!

Ahh right!
The video says that's where he was living in 2008. I'm guessing (maybe Charlie can confirm) that that isn't the house he was living in in the late 70s/early 80s since it isn't the ones on either side of any of the houses Dunstan lived in (as far as I can ascertain).

If he lived where I think (thought?) he lived, the house had a nice big cellar.

Speaking of interesting neighbours, Gretel (Dunstan's ex-wife) owned the house two doors down from the Stanley Street Nth Adelaide address that's previously been identified as the residence of Peter Millhouse. Bought in 1972 and sold December 1981.

Don Dunstan's homes

11A George St Norwood - purchased 2/1/53, sold 31/7/59

104 George Street Norwood - purchased 22/12/58, sold 5/6/72

55 Fullarton St Kent Town – rented one of the ten flats - 1972 - 1974

15 Clara St Norwood - purchased 6/2/73 – his partner still living there

In late 1973, he acquired the rear part of 11 Clara Street (the house next door). 11 Clara Street was owned by various members of a local family until 1987 when it was sold to John Terry (a prominent composer and educator who was part of the Adelaide theatre and festival scene and lecturer in music at Adelaide Uni during his years in Adelaide) and Nigel Smith.

Here's another curious home ownership. The TG Alberton house was owned by two men - another western suburbs doctor and a (much younger) chef - from June 1977 to August 1984. Given the miniscule size of Adelaide's gay community, it seems likely the owners would have known who their tenants were prior to the police turning up.

And a couple of corrections of things that have been published that I don't believe are correct.

First, I don't believe the doctor's property holdings (the eastern suburbs doctor that is a known suspect) included a photography studio on Payneham Road (per McInnerny and Roles). That was his father's business (premises rented, not owned) and I believe his father ceased it in 1959.

Second, the businessman's boyfriend's house was built in 1890 (according to local council sources) not 1928 (per McI & R) and was not unmortgaged (as previously claimed on this forum).
