It may not be correct, I have to go back and find where I saw a reference BVE had connections to a farm.

I can't find the link atm, but BVE's mother Thora would regularly stay with her cousin, a Ms Alcorn, at Houghton in the Adelaide Hills. They had a small hobby farm l believe. It wasn’t far at all from the airstrip where Richard was found.

Definitely crabs there, both 'blueys' and sand crabs. It's good for fishing as well but it isn't the most popular spot due to the rocks. I think we only fished there once. Both types of crabs can be very aggressive when targeting food or being disturbed by humans. I've seen the latter and it isn't nice.

The stringing together of body parts was peculiar. I think it was fishing line for the identifiers and clothesline for head and torso? Surely there must have been some reason for bothering to do such a baffling thing. Why didn't they throw the identifiers in separately? The fish would've taken them almost immediately. I wonder how much of the bag was broken? Interesting PF's place is on the map. It's reminded me of some homework I was meant to do months ago, related to fishing and PF.
But was PF at Alberton in 1979? Or later?

Do you know if Lyall VE was working there in 1980?
I recall him being there in '81, I was in year 3. I'd suggest he was there in 1980 but I can't confirm. Like many other teachers, he was there for the whole of my school life.
The school had (has?) two pipe organs, one in the chapel and one in the large hall. Lyall was very proficient at playing both of them.
Sturt Tragic may have had a different experience with him, but I never had any issues compared to many of the other teachers, particularly the more religious ones.

I had a few mates who would have been at Pulteney when you were there and they said you mentioned his brother on pain of death.
And the specific threat of suspension or expulsion as was exp!ained to all students via the headmaster not long after the conviction.

Thanks. Lyall's profession was as an organ builder.

And yes, re the religious teachers!

What irks me a lot is the protection the members of the family were getting. How high up were these members?

They may of been wealthy with good careers but I don’t think that gives reason to not prosecute them.

I guess times are changing. If a judge, ceo, government official r*ped and killed someone they would be held accountable this day and age.

Can you be specific please? Who committed which crimes and was protected?
"Doctor" Millhouse for one.... His defence was that he was an "Inadequate surgeon".. yeh well
his victims did not survive..Read between the lines!!!
The same rope and disposal bag used for at least one of the murdered found at his home. Shame on those that set him free..

Protected how? He was charged and tried in court. And he was just a doctor - hardly "high up".

We went to the same school. 'Name on the board' Groves
I have brought this brother up earlier on in the thread. To be honest there were many nasty, vindictive teachers at that school and I personally copped a lot of abuse, both physical and mental from them, the likes of which would probably see them jailed now. I was there from 81-91
I was there from 80-90. Agree about the pedigree of teachers there in the 80s. Some of the stuff I saw from them no doubt would have scarred some boys for life. Really cruel stuff.

There was a kid in my year, my best friend in grade 2-3-4 or thereabouts who survived an abduction attempt on his way to school one day. It was early 80s, and I can’t recall the timing of this event relative to BVE arrest. Never asked him about it, but I recall that it was his screams, and someone who heard them, that saved him. Saw him a few years ago for the first time in decades but didn’t feel it was the time and place to bring it up. Could be completely unrelated to this thread, but it does go to show what it was like growing up in Adelaide at that time.

I also grew up not far from the bizarre looking residence of Derrance Stevenson. We used to call it “ the house where that man died “.

I also remember around the same time that my mother would do the bike ride to school across the south parklands with my brother and I, and one day she got chased but some naked dude..strange stuff.

Trying to think back…I’m guessing we were in the same year then. I personally didn’t have serious issues with that many teachers during my years at PGS, mainly because I kept pretty quiet and under the radar…But I feared Groves and von Einem in those early years…and that was before any arrest.

Never knew his first name was Lyall, but yes he did play the organ in the chapel.

You’ve got a good memory to recall the specific threats of suspension following conviction of BVE. I had totally forgotten that until now.

We were almost certainly in the same grade or a year above/below. The boy who was the subject of attempted abduction had the initials PF? I was in his class, Father Wynne's at the time. My school friends and I also have many memories of Derrance Stevenson's house, 'the guy in the freezer'. My father worked on Greenhil Rd and most days I had to walk across the parklands to his office to get a lift home, skirting alongside Veale gardens and all the weirdo's that used to hang out there. Often felt them leering at me as young boy in a private school uniform. I made the mistake of visiting the public toilets in desperation but only ever did that once. If we caught the bus to school we'd have to walk past The Green Dragon which was a seedy place and often saw disgusting things on the sidewalk.
Unfortunately I have lots and lots of memories from those times and very few are enjoyable ones. I think I'm one of the ones scarred for life.

I retract this.

I have read through these forums and other areas. It has been mentioned but there is no merit.

I remember reading the police said there hands were tied or they could not do much about some of this case. This is just stuff I have read so it’s factual.

The tattoo skin flaps were strung somewhat like bait in a crabbers pot where small mesh bait bags are strung together and attached to the inside of the pot. The bin bags acted as the pot with the hope, presumably, that the sealife would take the whole lot away without being trapped inside..

I think it's reasonable to think it's quite possible whoever was responsible, is familiar with the art of crabbing. The police might want to have another look at any photos they have to see if they can spot any crab pots or fishing gear.

Seems he was there from 1974.

Yes, it was PF. And I was also in Wynn’s class at the time. Year 4. Another widely feared teacher.

Back then, lots of the fathers would have fished/crabbed recreationally, especially those living in the Western suburbs, so it may not be a process of elimination for this generation. For example, some time ago I posted a newspaper article about Bevan's dad fishing at Outer Harbor.

Wasn't Middle Beach also a good crabbing spot??
