He slipped a lot of punches, was actually really impressed with how hard he was to hit at times for someone so old - I thought he would be a sitting duck and just stand and throw punches. It was almost the exact opposite though as you say his legs weren’t exactly amazing.

Obviously there was a fair degree of carrying once Paul got to the point of knowing he was safe, I think it’s worth noting that Tyson has probably never shown, really, that he can handle adversity in the boxing ring: he was an amazing front runner but in all the fights where it was taken to him by an opponent he struggled to summon anything extra aside from maybe the Douglas fight prior to getting knocked out so I was actually surprised to see him make it to the end even with Paul not going in for an easy kill in the last 2-3 rounds.

I hope for his sake as the troubled individual that he has been that he at least takes something beyond money from it.

Tyson did but even try, it was like he was told under no circumstances throw a punch. It was such a set up.
If Tyson was serious and it wasn’t a set up the fight would gone less than a minute. Even the first round Tyson just stood there like a witches hat.
It was laughable. Good on them both for making the money, I fell for it and watched it like millions did but it was so staged they should be given Oscar’s.

I think he showed some signs that he was trying early on - maybe not to actually break his jaw or something but to throw some bigger punches - but when it got to the point of ‘ok you obviously are well behind so you need to knock him out’ and you thought ‘well obviously he’s going to come out and go for the big shot now’ and it never came, there was obviously a bit in that which is disappointing.

I think this is a bit of a bad take. Paul just kept his distance first few rounds. Tyson too slow to close it. Then too gassed to do anything about it thereafter.

Tyson was wobbly and hardly able to keep his feet in round three. JP could have landed a feather touch at that point and he was off with the fairies. Gentle thereafter.

You know that Paul Gallen and Barry Hall fought 4 rounds at 2 minutes each, one of them having literally only retired that season, and Gallen, though he was fit enough to become a passable punching bag eventually, got his ears boxed off and they were both relatively spent at the end of it.

Tyson just fought a current professional boxer. He’s 58. And he fought 8 two minute rounds.

So yeah, not quite sure that’s entirely accurate. He’s done things to his body that wouldn’t have helped it a lot in terms of his addictions, but he’s also spent a large percentage of his life as one of the world’s premier athletes and would be in better nick than most people his age despite what it’s done to some of his functionality.
Disagree, he has taken marajuana and mushrooms daily for years, his knee is stuffed, he has no balance, there would be a lot more 58year olds in better shape imo.

that is generous

the only time Jake has fought another boxer.............he lost.

Probably been answered already but how was everyone’s stream?

It was perfect for me aside from one or two brief (like 4 second) quality drops during the actual Paul/Tyson fight but otherwise excellent. I’ve heard a lot of people (in the US mostly) aren’t happy though and wasn’t sure if anyone over here was affected?

This should be a lesson that you never get sucked in by how someone , even a 50 plus yo old Mike Tyson bashing a heavy bag and the pads looks.
His last decent performance was arguable 30 years ago .

It was scripted beyond round 1-2 to go the journey . It wasn't a surprise. I was more shocked at how many messages I got asking who I thought would win 😄

Hopefully Mike got paid well for this , I have heard Paul really does look after his opponents and the lower card fights $$$$ wise .

I bet they can all slip punches that well and make it through an 8 round fight. Great point. I’ll call my older brother and ask him about it.

For the sake of the comparison it’s relevant given that Gallen himself wasn’t fighting a boxer and was a current elite athlete.
And yes I know Paul is not what you would call a credible decent boxer. He is still a professional one, though.

I remember as kid watching Ali fight the Japanese world karate champion. The karate guy wasn't allowed to kick so he spent the whole fight on his butt shuffling around the ring and using his feet to keep Ali at a distance so he couldn't punch him.

Close to as big a joke as what this was.
Inoki was not a karate fighter he was a grappler. They severely limited the grappling so Inokis only option other than getting knocked out by Ali trying to box was the farce that happened.

If it was real Tyson would if been trained to last 4 minutes. He would have come out as he always did throwing huge punches and Paul would have had no answer. But alas he just didn’t even attempt to throw any real punches.
Yes he is 58 and agree you can’t do what you once could but power wise he still had a punch but unfortunately never threw any.
Smartest 20 million he ever made

he's a professional influencer who uses boxing as a medium to influence.

No.
Sure the power may still be there, but the speed and movement is gone. That why Jones Jr kept talking about Tysons legs, he couldn’t get in a position to throw a decent punch and Paul wasn’t standing still.

Yeah I had some minor issues towards the end of the card. My guess was everyone logging into Netflix to watch it. I’m sure a lot of non fans of boxing probably decided to tune in at the end out of curiosity. A lot of people would have just wanted to see Tyson
