Does he have any fans in regards to boxing? This is like Mundine where his fights sold because people wanted to see him lose.

No one talks, cares or barely remembers Mundine anymore, I reckon I've seen and heard more of Danny Green since they have both been retired.

Paul is grabbing the money while he can, He has one life left after losing to Fury and he knows it. I doubt he actually cares what people think of him as a boxer.
Agree he has no interest in boxing which is why he picks his targets. Álvarez already gets huge $$$ so nothing to gain in him knocking out Jake. He is in it for the boxing legacy and Jake knows it.

Yeah, fans as in influencer persona (the trappings of instant wealth) IMO. Not boxing fans. He is a promoter of himself that is it.

Good analogy with Mundine. Used to always come out with polarising statements just prior to a fight to get people to pay to see him lose. The hate was real. Now nobody cares what he says. Not that I think he is a bad person but history will judge him that way, big price to pay.

TBH, I would not be shocked if somehow McGreggor ends up being the next circus. He is washed up as a fighter and will be chasing $$$ soon.

Insta followers:
Anthony Mundine 35K
Jake Paul 28.3M

Footage in the change rooms before the fight of Lewis and Holyfield visiting Tyson.

Tyson is the youngest of the 3 but in the exchange between the 3 comes across 10 years older.
Lewis very switched on and sharp

Worst I've heard recently was Thomas Hearns , way worse than Tyson was yesterday

And?...People are and were watching to see both lose.

Paul would have had millions of followers before he even stepped into the ring.

Mundine v Green was before Instagram was even born.

Mundine was big for a Aussie but even his biggest PPV only sold couple hundred thousand.. nothing really

Mundine had fans lol, sure people hated him as well, but at the end of the day he probably had more actual fans than Green, he just had more haters. And everyone remembers Mundine, whether for good or bad.

Tyson fans are the stupid casual ones, who thought a 58 year old stood a chance because they casually followed boxing as a teen.

Plenty wrong about Paul, but he did the right thing not knocking Tyson out. He also puts on decent cards. He exposed great fighters like Taylor and Serrano to a larger audience, as well as great up and comer like Shu Shu, and paid them well.

And one life left ...lmfao.

Netflix even started buffering because all the morons started tuning into the stupid fight, not all the good lead up ones.

Paul smart, casuals as annoying as hell.

Was PPV a thing in that era?
I remember it being more a thing sold to pubs etc, and people would go down and watch.
I'm not even sure if Foxtel etc was available to Australians at that time?
Was some pretty big crowds down at the local nonetheless.

PPV was huge for Mundine. He fought his debut on PPV before idiots like No Limit put everything behind a paywall. Think Mundines first fight away from PPV was Tommy Browne

Cheers, I was just unsure of the timeline. I do remember big crowds in the pubs for Mundine v Green.
Totally agree with the No Limit comment. When The Monster comes close to killing Goodman, I hope that's one step closer to finishing what they are doing to Australian boxing.

Back in those days you could listen to the PPV on foxtel if you didn't buy it.

Subscription to Fox or a separate fee like No Limit do on top?
Proper PPV. People are underestimating/forgetting Mundine appeal

It was a different time, pre social media marketing and shit yet his debut was on PPV.

His career is semi underrated too. Wins over Green (I thought he won the rematch too), Geale, Mosely, Solimon no slouch, & lost to Kessler.

That's what happens when you say stupid stuff just to try and sell PPV and he has admitted that's why he did it.

Green twice as many Instagram followers which surprised me a little because I didn't think Green was overly that popular as most Australians only seem to care about global title fights.

Was anyone else fuming at the Taylor v Serrano decision?
The biggest stage boxing has been on in a long time and the judges go and do that. I have no idea how 2 of the 3 judges gave the 2nd round to Taylor, one of Serrano's stronger rounds.
The constant heabutting whether on purpose or not IMO deserved more than one point off. You can't lead with your head consistently and get away with it.
I was impressed by Serrano and completely underwhelmed by Taylor. Her huge success in womens boxing shows the lack of quality and depth in the sport at the moment. She is quick and has good footwork but I thought her technique was fairly poor.
Let's not forget Serrano also went up 3 divisions which is the same as Inoue going up to 135 and beating Tank Davis, Shakur Stevenson or Loma.
I haven't seen the first fight but from everything I have read it sounds like Serrano was robbed the first time around as well.

Close fights =/= robberies

Close fights =/= robberies
I don't think the fight was that close personally. I thought at worst it was 6 rounds to 4 minus the point deduction. So 96-93.
I ask again, in what world did Taylor win the second round? It's all good to say close fights don't equal robberies but when clear rounds are scored wrong, they sure as shit can be.

I didn't see the 2nd round, I saw the last 4 or so. The trouble with womens fights is there are rarely knock downs or finishes so fights are often close

Taylor landed the bigger shots snapping AS head back, but AS was the one walking forward.

Left v right is a nightmare for head clashes and tangled feet which again make it a cluster**** to score

I've seen scores going both ways and the striking stats the commentary team displayed looked way wrong, the comms were also wildly biased.

It was a close fight from what I saw and the comms was embarrassing. It wasn't as one sided as they were claiming

Serrano at least has some power. She was able to hurt Taylor especially early.
The vast majority of cards I have seen, excluding Irish ones, had Serrano winning by 2 - 3 rounds.
I'm left handed, so I understand the issue with head clashes but it also comes down to styles as well. Jumping in, head first while your opponent is coming forward is going to cause head clashes regardless of stances.
I don't agree with your statement about opposite stances being a cluster **** to score, maybe when both fighters are inexperienced, though they are often a cluster**** to score anyway.
AS was definitely outlanding, outthrowing and landing the better shots. I don't think Taylors pitter patter combos were all that effective.
The cut completely changed the fight, AS was clearly having issues seeing out of it. Further headbutts continued to make it worse. By the end of the fight it was huge and only seemed to get worse after headbutts rather than punches. I'm not sure what the answer if after an accidental headbutt causes a huge fight changing cut.
I thought the carry on from Serrano's trainer was over the top but I also understand his anger and frustration.
I'm not sure you can say it was a close fight if you have missed the majority of the fight, particularly as I thought as the cut got worse Taylor was able to land more.
It probably goes without saying but many judges seem to prefer the fighter backing up (unless the other fighter is Canelo) because it is seen as more pure boxing somehow. The stereotype being that the power puncher/brawler comes forward and the boxer moves back while evading the brute. We have seen a lot of really bad scores where this is the case. The issues is when both fighters are just as effective or the fighter coming forward is slightly more effective but it's not as 'pretty' so they seem to need to do more to actually win the round.
The referee looked pretty lost in there at times to me. He definitely didn't have control of the fight. There were times when he looked like he wanted to break them up while they were throwing punches, times where he didn't want to when they were clinching etc. At times he just look kind of lost/confused.

In the early days of Foxel late 90s I remember one of my mate's dad paying iirc $50 for a fight that lasted like a couple of rounds lol.
