The 'Grog Squad' gets targetted

Btw, I was right near the Grog Squad at the Saints game and I thought they were tame!

This where the line needs to be drawn on what is accpetable at an AFL game.

Obviously you can't tolerate racially abusive lanugage at the footy, but can you tolerate swearing?

I don't know many of their chants but it will be interesting what they do with stuff like "Dustin Martin can shag my wife!" Is that offensive? It doesn't seem offensive or agressive to me. Is calling Andrew Krakoer a "criminal" at the footy offensive? Can opposition coaches call players "rapists?" Surely the MCG or AFL need to come out and make a clarification on this.

And how does this get policed? If everyone's chanting it do they all get kicked out? They'd have to target the "ringleaders" who start the chant but this would be pretty tricky.

There is still murky terriotory of what is "accpetable" at the footy and umbrella terms like "colourful language" doesn't really clear anything up at all.

I think the Herald Sun thinks they will get a response out of their readership because the 'Grog Squad' sounds scary to their conservative readership. I suppose if this group was called 'The Bible Squad who does Charity Work and loves the Queen' then the Herald Sun would not have ran a story about a few people in that group that drops the odd 'f bomb' !

I sit in the AFL members and we do put up with alot of swearing. Particuarly because supporters are from different teams you get alot more "arguements" but these don't really ever esculate into a fight. In general I'd say AFL members also drink less at the footy which is a major factor in confrontations, genral admission people probably drink the most ecause people like AFL members who go every week drinking at the footy becomes to expensive.

But really, the majority are fine, I sort of think you need "thick skin" to go to the footy and not pay attention to the people around you but some things you just can't ignore I guess.

This just got mentioned in a report on Seven news. Apparently the MCC are going to be targeting 'a group of Richmond supporters who call themselves the Grog Squad' and mentioned 'alcohol-fuelled offensive chants.'

This is an absolute disgrace, I stand one bay over from the Grog Squad every game at the G and I have NEVER seen any trouble there. Yes there's a couple of F bombs, you sit in any bay at any ground anywhere in the country and you'll get F-bombs dropped all the time.

It is the best atmosphere to watch the footy at, I'm an MCC member and the seats are great there, but there's nothing like the atmosphere near the Grog Squad. I stand away from them as I let them do their own thing, don't wanna intrude on the group coz I'm not really across the chants. But jeez, if they start kicking people out tomorrow, it will be a travesty of justice and more likely than not start a lot of trouble that wouldn't have been there otherwise

i stand with the grog squad most weeks and you do hear so horrible and language. not a lot but enough that can cause problems
