How does Ryder score 145 points with a stat line like his. He was absent except for when he bumped McPharlin and that goal at the end, do those 2 instances equal to 70+ points? Can someone please explain because it's got me...

Points scale based on how close the scores are at the time and how much time is left to go in that particular quarter. Quarters themselves scale depending on how close the scores are within each quarter. For example, Bartel's winning goal (+ kick + free kick + 50m penalty) last week just before the siren increased his score from 111 to 149. This was further scaled to 157 after the game, due to the last quarter being very close compared to the other quarters, so last quarter scores were given additional weight.

I have to admit I have a very strong preference to Dreamteam as I am a very simple man. I like to know what I'm getting. Four points for a tackle, three for a kick, two for a handball, etc.

The Supercoach advocates I know and also on this forum wax lyrical about the 'fact' that it is a far superior system, rewarding those players who are the most influential on the game. Those who truly appreciate football play Supercoach, I am told.

So Jeremy Cameron kicks 7 goals of his team's 10, in possibly the greatest game by a forward this year. They hang in against Collingwood for the better part of the game before running out of legs in the last quarter.

How then is he ranked the 6th most effective player on the ground? Behind Swan, Sidebottom, Beams, Ward and Witts?

Had 11 possessions. That's not many.

I found hes score quiet odd same as buddys. The diver Lthomas kicked 6 or 7 last week only got about 80.I guess the player needs to take contested marks to help hes score with low 11 possessions.I thought there a total number of points allotted so the most influential players should get more points.Anyway i dont really know how it works.

That in my opinion is the crux of the problem. There is something fundamentally flawed when a bloke kicks 7 of his team's ten goals and is only the six best player on the ground. Cameron and Buddy will both get 2 or 3 votes on Brownlow night and it was clear for all to see.

it seems like some tweaking this year has thrown far more weighting behind "contested" possessions.

What constitutes "contested" isn't black and white.

On top of that contested possessions are no longer the driver of whether teams win or lose which isn't helping these anomalies.

Do you think after a player has kicked x number of goals their goals should be weighted higher?

If you kick say 6 goals or more, because it's such a rare occurrence nowadays l think it should count for a bit more or if it's a certain percentage of a teams goals like Cameron's was (70% l think, without looking it up) it should be worth more.

Perhaps there should be bonuses along the way, say if you get over 35 disposals an extra 50 points or over 6 goals an extra 50 points. Not sure if this would work but it would be interesting as a player reached or came close to reaching that mark during a game.

Why should six goals from one player be worth more than six goals combined from six players?

I think the scoring system is quite accurate, if hadn't watched alot of the games and glanced over the stats ( and advanced stats with disposal efficiency) it would tell the story.

As dominating as Cameron's effort was, the way it seems on paper (regardless how efficient) is that of a cameo role as a opposed to a midfielder with 30 possessions, 8 tackles and 2 goals next to his name. Or a ruckman with 40 hitouts, 9 marks, 12 possessions and a goal. I did watch the Game and was in awe at Cameron's game, but space of time in between his goals is what tilted the balance of the game and the scoring showed.

Just like the brownlow and pretty much every other award (bar the Coleman), it is a Midfielder's game.
