Just downloaded and watched a cam release. Geez, what a stinker.

I'm a big fan of Ricky Gervais - The Office, Extras, his XFM radio program and podcasts, and just about any interview he does. But not even he can save this tedious, unfunny movie. Even so, some people (and critics) on IMDb like it. The story is basically one idea (with limitless possibilities) that goes nowhere after the first act. Anyway, if you loved Ghost Town, you might like The Invention of Lying. Maybe. I think it opens in cinemas late November.

Karl Pilkington was cast as a caveman, but the scene didn't make the final cut of the film. Still, he is one of Gervais' best mates and even he can't summon much enthusiasm for the film...

Speaking of Gervais, here's a link to a new 30 minute The Office retrospective (called A Night at the Office) that was screened on the BBC a couple of months ago.

Don't care about this. Unless Gervais has written it, it is gonna be shit. See also Ghost Town, Stardust and his other rubbish Hollywood appearances. I wish he'd quit this Film sojourn and return to doing what he does best. And can somebody find Stephen Merchant please?!

Gervais' new live show Science is currently doing the rounds in the UK. I can't wait for the DVD of that.

You can't take Karl's point of view on anything as nothing bar news about monkeys, bugs or freaks gets him excited.

Apparently 'Science' is pretty disappointing, short and predominantly a rehash of things he's covered in 'Animals', 'Politics' and 'Fame'.

I agree though, Steve Merchant needs more screentime, our TVs are worse off for not having him on them.

Went and saw this last night.

My biggest problem started with the spoken intro telling you the guy was about to be the first person to ever tell a lie. I gather that was added because people were confused in the early screenings?

It took me a while to get used to the idea that not only did these people not lie, the said everything in their head, so the premise is basically a lie can be not saying something.

Anyway the show was passable with most jokes half funny but not laugh outloud humour, some of it could pass as dark comedy in the Black Book vien of things but I could be stretching it. I thought Jennifer Garner looked alright which is suprising for me because IMO she ain't the prettiest car in the car lot.

I reckon the whole thing could have been funnier if they kept with the story line of the invention of the man in the sky instead of focusing in on the relationship.

I thought it was the best movie of the year, in all seriousness. It was extremely clever and well executed by a great cast - I give it 10/10. I would nominate it for an Academy Award.

Imagine if we had no concept of lying - just in football alone it would be hilarious:

Goal Umpire Signals Goal. Player who kicked the ball runs across. "You made a mistake - I actually kicked it through for a behind." Goal Umpire apologises, signals the mistake, and waves the flag for a point.

Coach: Why were you late for the Sunday morning training session?
Player: I was out until 5am drinking and gambling at the casino.
Coach: You go back to the VFL for four weeks
Player: I prefer to play under the VFL coach than you. You are a terrible coach, and your poor leadership skills are the reason we are last on the ladder.

Coach (His top placed team is about to take the field against a low ranked opponent) - We'll win it easily. This is a terrible team we're playing, and you guys should win by 12 goals minimum.
Opposing Coach (addressing his team in next room) - We have no chance at all of winning this game, and we will probably be thrashed.

Still, I seem to have a habit of liking movies nobody else likes!

Yeah whilst I wouldn't go that far, I thought it was much better than most people said it was going to be.

Got a few good chuckles out of stuff like "A sad place for old people" and the coke ad.

Why oh why cant Ricky go do some British movie? This American RUBBISH is bringing him down...

And to my disappointment I saw that chick from "Extras"- the one that always stuck her foot in her mouth at every op :D-.. in some PATHETIC American sitcom... cant even recall the name of it, its that crap.
