The Jamarra Thread

Amazing turn of events for the historically KPF bereft Bulldogs to potentially lose arguably the best young key forward in the comp and yet it’s probably going to be fine because we also have the other young key forward in that argument, another one good for 40-50 goals a year and another one playing VFL.

This is why I’m pretty unfussed about this. It’s irritating that we spent the draft capital and development opportunity on him, but in terms of the list there’s a decent chance that - despite his obvious talent - he would be fourth choice KPF in the next couple of years, unless his goal kicking and defensive efforts improved.

I hope for his sake he gets his act together. But from a club perspective they should do the right things to support him while not worrying too much about the footy impact. It’ll be less at our club than it would be at others, which is bizarre given the traditional lack of KPF talent at WO.

What an embarrassing thread. All the posters who asked for a PM should be ashamed. Genuinely can’t believe the last two pages.

I’ll give you a red hot tip. If there are people on here who know anything, it’s probably 5% of what’s going on and they sure as hell wouldn’t be messaging to random people on the internet.

Oh the social conscience for all of us. Thank you. It's been well articulated in this thread why club supporters might want to know a little more about the situation.

Yes it has and I don't think they're adequate reasons at all.

The best thing we can do for club and player (and arguably for ourselves) right now is to stop speculating, seeking out innuendo and asking for unsubstantiated rumours to be further propagated.

Better to just sit back and enjoy watching the footy.

Best thing for him right now is to put his payments into a trust fund that he can’t access until he’s 30? I know this would be ethically difficult but paying someone obscene money when they have a serious addiction is also ethically questionable. The money he is now earning is life changing money, unless of course it is wasted. I reckon this is why you hire a manager in the first place. But regardless of whether the manager is doing this or not, it’s on the club to not be his enabler now.

You're right here, the only good thing about him is he is incredibly, incredibly talented.

It takes more than talent to make a footballer.

Understand your point of view. However, personally speaking, I have absolutely zero intention of repeating what I’ve been told, so no fanning the flames on my part. Having some idea of what MAY be happening provides some additional context and a way to understand the situation a little bit more. As a grown man I’m Perfectly capable of hearing rumours and still remaining open minded and aware that information is often of different levels of reliability.
Haha what? Youre delusional.
“I’m better than everyone else because I only want to hear the juicy gossip for my own satisfaction. I’d never pass it one because I don’t believe in gossiping”

It's concerning to me that there are people that think there's a difference between sharing rumours on a public forum, and messaging an unending list of people with said rumour. It doesn't do the person sharing the rumour or the subject of the rumour any favours.

Just brain dead stuff.

Here is a list of rumour possibilities:
drug abuse, alcohol abuse, partner bashing, depression, suicidal tendencies, mob connections, racial victimisation, Russia collaboration, MAGA social media support.
There you go, folks. Choose your preferences and let's have an end to this constant rumour surfing.

Is the Partner bashing supposed to be the Lobb gun thing ?

The managers suggest this sort of thing for what it’s worth. The problem is it’s always the player’s choice and someone in the frame of mind like Stringer was in back in 2015-16 when he was torching cash gambling isn’t going to listen.

The number of players who are broke shortly after their careers end is startling. I know of one of our ex-players who has at a recent point been functionally homeless despite a long career.

Many managers try get their clients to buy a house ASAP as that assists to force savings in a way and or commitment towards a payment been a loan.

Some I know ask the club whether they can bring payments forward to get a deposit sooner than later so as a purchase can be done sooner.

He's 22 years old, he's an adult . If I had invested all the money I'd pissed away between the ages of 18 & 28 I'd be Gina Reinhardt. Of course I didn't have an agent . Maybe every 21 year old in the land should be assigned an agent .

My hunch would be that people within the club are trying to save him from his demons, not save his footy career . I feel the same , I don't care about his game. I hope he comes out of this disaster unscathed.

Yes, a disaster of his own making. But as much as we like to think we're creatures of perfect free will & choice, we aren't. If that was the case we wouldn't be 10kg overweight, or had a few drinks too many last week , or yelled at our kids, or spent too long playing World of Warcraft and forgot to put the bins out...

1 in 7 Aussies are on antidepressants.

I have compassion for him, because I know what looks like fun on social media isn't always a big old laugh. And will get less & less fun as the years roll on.

This is a reasonable perspective. It's easy to get carried away thinking of players as a commodity
