Nah, I'm not a sci-fi guy, I don't think I've seen a frame of star trek or star wars.
Weirdly, I saw the original movie (which then became the fourth in the series I think) on opening day at the cinema (yeah I'm that old) having bunked school, and then went twice more in the following week.

I haven't seen a minute of anything released since.

My dream "worlds collide" scenario might be Lego x WWE, but I'm not even sure what that might look like after a ring and a few brickheads and/or masks

Did you peel off the protective plastic film?

I'm surprised it took so long for someone to pick me up on that!

Yes, I did eventually realise there was a protective film that had to be removed... it was still total shit, it's real floppy plastic, it's still barely see through, and my hope was to be able to stack them and use them as a space saving device, but they're nowhere near durable enough for that. It might survive one stacked on top of it, but if you tried stacking 2 I think you'd end up an enormous Lego mess, because all of your "boxes" (ie. cheap shitty plastic that kind of poorly links together) would all fall apart with the slightest knock. They badly needed to be taped together if you were going to use them, which completely defeats the purpose of spending 80 on a "clear, acrylic" box.

The solution is just to go to Ikea tomorrow. I haven't been able to find a matching Rudsta (to my current one) on the second hand market, and buying one new isn't that much more expensive than buying 3 of those boxes would've been. Just takes up more space. (And let's be honest... looking for a second hand one was less about expense, and more about being too lazy to build it myself.)

I decided not to go to Ikea and spend more money today - instead I decided that I should actually build this Mercedes F1 and assess my space, cos having the Mercedes and McLaren also allows me to assess space for the upcoming Red Bull and Ferrari.

It all comes flooding back to you really quick. I find the building the insides and getting the mechanism to work to be really fun... they get less fun as you get closer to finish when you have not 1, but 2 very ominous looking sticker sheets staring at you with a total of 60 stickers. JFC. That's not right, they need to be printing more of these parts.

I'm 2 bags in out of (I think) 12, I don't think the McLaren had that many. It might've been as few as 5.

It's also much bigger than you might think ;).

I don't mind the stickers on sets like this, it's part of the whole visual appeal. To print all those parts would be prohibitive. They aren't as difficult to apply as they are on, say, Artemis. Don't be put off.

Yeah I think Technic has (finally) gotten with the program and generally has now a single numbered bag for each step (and hence more steps). Previously 3-4 bags for each numbered step wasn't uncommon, and when each of those had 1 or 2 inner bags, it got a bit unwieldy.
