Does anyone think that Maldivian could be wound right up to run a blinder first up? With all the focus on this being a "match race" Big Mal could be the forgotten one.

Mal will run a cheeky race and finish Top 4 for sure, but this is Light Fantastic's big chance I think to knock off the Huss over a short distance race.

Comparing form you'd expect Hussler to be about a length better horse. But I thought LF looked more wound up in his track gallop, and hasn't had any issues to deal with this week. Margin: bob of the head.

Although personally I cannot see him winning, he certainly ticks a lot of boxes and is racing in fantastic form at the moment.

Ratings suggest a race in two. That $3.50 for Light Fantastic looks pretty tasty considering the Hussler has injury doubts and my top raters are flying lately. Wouldn't expect that price will last come Saturday.

Even though Jungle Ruler has the fitness edge I expect it to be totally outclassed in this field, hence the $41 offered on Centrebet. Kibbutz won't win a warm up jog around the block, so Sir Slick and Alamosa look very good E/W chances and I'd like to see Maldivian strike a bit of form first before I'd be throwing any money on him.

Warming to Alamosa E/W too, if it wins or performs exceptionally well in this will be the big early market mover of the main 3 races.

ill let you all on a little secret!! wait for the tab sportsbets markets to open up each thursday morning, or around lunch time!! when they 1st post there markets, its easy to identify the value runners!!

• last week eskaw opened at $16 and was into $9.5 the morning of race day. didnt matter though cos it went terribly.

• yesterday morning, they opened up Light fantastic at $4.00, and i thought, those odds are way too generous!! i checked it about 2 hours later and it was $3.60, $3.30 last night and is now into $3

after saying all this, ill go for maldivian!!
