After watching him today, I think it is more important that we put games into him for the rest of the year, than any of our other youngsters.

If Primus can rationalise playing Jacobs, Moore and O'Shea for the sake of giving youngsters the experience, then Lobbe must be played for the rest of the season, as he is far more important than all of these guys to our chances next year.

I'd also argue strongly that he must play in front of Daniel Stewart who was non-existent yet again. In fact, when Stewart went into the middle, we looked at our worst - that was certainly the period of the third quarter when they got on their run.

Lobbe has to be played in front of Stewart.

Would love to see a tandem of Brogan and Lobbe for the rest of the season. Is a must.

Surely Lobbe resting up forward couldn't be as invisible as Stewart was again today. I like Stewart and had high hopes for him after the back end of last season but he has been a major disappointment this year.

Am one who dips my hat
He did terrific.
I put out 1st quarter performance down to him and his enthusiasm which was infectious

not too flash in the ruck, but around the field offered more than stewart and worsthoof.

drop them and bring in bass i dont care. brogan, lobbe, bass, just play them

Lobbe and Bass are both 200cm. Goldstein is 201cm. Lobbe needs some more body strength and that will come with maturity.

Redden is the big boy of the lot at 205cm.

Great game from Lobbe. I have always been a fan and feel a bit justified after today. He will make it. He was beaten in the ruck (but that will get better) but his second efforts and mobility around the ground were superb.

As has been said Lobbe must play for the rest of the year. He is mobile enough to rest as a forward so he can definitely be played with Brogan. Not good for Stewart unless he improves significantly before Brogan gets back.

can anyone please explain why we haven't been getting game time into this kid? (while we've given time to pettigrew pittard moore jacobs irons and oshea?)

I thought Lobbe was pretty game for his first AFL hit-out of the year given how he's been messed around at SANFL level.

Daniel Stewart though, 1 good mark and 1 goal seems to be his output at AFL level. It's not looking very promising for him.

Choco didn't play him because he was trying to save his job, this year I think he has been injured.

He and Moore need to be played in the AFL for us to go forward. They have the physical attributes for it and obviously have a bit of talent. They might not work out but we won't know unless they play.

Banner is a SANFL player. Forget about it.

On form so is 85% of our list.

He has a month of excellent form as a prolific SANFL midfielder after being a prolific TAC Cup midfielder. We must play him.

Lobbe showed me enough today to convince me that he is capable of playing consistent football in the ruck at AFL level.

His tap work wasnt great but then he was up against Goldstein who has been killing everyone.

His around the ground work was good and he laid quite a few tackles, and his second efforts and workrate were both good.

What people need to take into account is that he has played only a handfull of games of AFL and nothing this season at all. He also had an interrupted preseason and season with injury and is being played out of position at westies and is back and forth from league to reserves.

He needs time to settle in and i'd be more than happy to see him play out the season in the ruck. Give him a red hot crack for the rest of the season and we'll have a better idea if the kids up to it. A few games on the trot would do him the world of good i would think. He certainly didnt look out of place today

If we don't pick Banner on recent form, should we just delist him now to give him a genuine shot elsewhere? He's clearly doing absolutely everything he can in the magoos.

Surely he'd be offering more intensity than say, everyone else in our midfield.

We get ****ing smashed week in week out in the middle. How are guys like Thomas and Kornes keeping their spots? It's infuriating. Surely Banner has at least earned himself a go.

As for Lobbe, liked his effort in general. Let's hope he gets a run of games.

Lobster action... What's a pass mark? Holding his own in the ruck? Picking up more than 3 handballs? Not looking out of his depth up forward?

I'm looking for a decent 15 - 20 hitouts, somewhere around 10 touches and some good defensive pressure. Or am I asking too much?

Lobbe:

14 disposals
24 hitouts
6 marks
5 tackles (!!!)
2 frees for
1 free against
2 inside 50s

In his first game as no. 1 ruck, coming in as an emergency.

He surpassed my expectations and surely everyone's gotta be impressed by that.

Almost the first time all year I've felt a youngster has EARNED his spot next week, rather than just played for the future.

Well done to Lobbe, I think 7 of those were in the first quarter, but at least he influenced the game, which is what I was asking for from him.

Not really a Banner section, but he has to be picked.

Agree, good effort for the lad.
Play him for EVERY game for the rest of the year regardless of whether Broges is playing or not.

What I liked most about his effort is his versatility. His hitouts will increase as he learns his way in the AFL environment.

But its what he does around the ground, the tackling, marking etc that has me more excited. He could be a player that you can quite confidently rest up forward or down back and be confirdent he can hold his own in either position

Lobbe showing he can actually do something was about the only positive I took from the game.

Please Matty, play 2 ruckmen when Broges gets back. Throwing team balance out a little will be worth finding out what Lobbe's got with a decent run of footy.

I have a feeling Lobbe will be even better when Broges has broken them in a little too.

My favourite thing beyond all stats and everything was the fact that even after bulking up, he's still got that gigantic leap on him. That was my favourite thing about his pre-draft highlights and he's still got it!

I LOL'd when he lept too early in one of the centre bounces and almost cartwheeled over the umpire and opposing ruck. It looked like he even surprised himself with the height of his jump.

Considering we haven't seen a decent young ruck come through since Brogan, it was heartening to see him battle out the game and do more than just take the ruck contests.
