Not sure why the US are sending any carrier groups (apart from sabre rattling). They have two permanent air bases in South Korea.

heading to Seoul tomorrow for 2 days so as long as its not in the new few days I'll be happy.

in a way you answered your own question. also a carrier group can sit out of danger and still strike back if necessary where air bases would be first to be hit.

A carrier group steaming towards Korea is easier done than expanding two airbases with the same amount of aircraft and personnel. And makes much better footage too.

It is not a matter of planes. They need support crew, parts ordnance and everything that goes with it. Why keep all bases oversized just for the sake of "in case of "where as a Carrier Fleet can be just as effective and cover multiple theatres?
Trump being pragmatic? More unreliable ,unstable and untrustworthy . Compromising on policies is acceptable in politics. Complete U turns aren't. Bombing Syria and Afghanistan, steaming towards NKorea is perhaps posturing and a show of arms that would perhaps do well with the voters but not with his far more powerful and perhaps former allies . Trump hasn't made many friends, only frenemies.

Trump is not a dictator - if he were, then folks born in six Muslim nations wouldn't be permitted to enter the US, and Obamacare would no longer exist.

No doubt he likely wishes he were a dictator - as a captain of industry he's clearly struggling with the levels of oversight and accountability and checks and balances imposed by government ... that darstardly constitution just gets in the way of getting things done!

As your dictionary definition of 'fascism' clearly states, it's a "governmental system". The US governmental system which Trump is now head of is enshrined by the constitution, and that hasn't changed since Obama was President.

They still have the two tiers plus Presidential veto of law making. One of those tiers plus a third of the other one will be held accountable to their electorates in a little under two years. The judiciary remains intact (even with Gorsuch on the Supreme Court). The tripartite remains intact.

Fascism is so much more complex than that and definitely does not require a dictator. You're more closely describing China, Russia and to an extent the German EU. But that's OK there is plenty of debate on the nature of and what constitutes fascism.
