The MCG......Best stadium in Australia....??

MCG = best in Australia.

Just an amazing stadium and a very special feeling when you walk into the place. Even with the upgrades and modern facilities it still seems to have a historic feel to it.

It's standing in the world? Better people than me can answer that, or at least people who have been to a few of the top stadiums around the world. Been to Dodger Stadium, not even close.....Daytona Speedway is awe inspiring, but I'd still take the MCG. Would love to visit some of the grand old stadiums in Europe. Had friends this year that have gone to a Champions League match in Barcelona and visited Anfield, and another friend that went to a WC match in Germany. Both very impressed, but still love MCG best.

Suncorp Stadium? mwauhahahahahaha

Thanks for providing me with a laugh, when i'm crook today charliemurphy:thumbsu: :D

It's actually a pretty good stadium that one. I was very impressed watching A league soccer there last year. Dunno why they didnt chuck a roof on it, but anyway.

But, it's tiny, half the size of the G. Impossible to compare really. As they all are. The G is the biggest, half of it the newest with a long, long history. Dont think anything can come close in this country from those factors alone.

What makes a great stadium exactly?

MCG certainly has the size, location and most importantly the HISTORY, however as has been said upthread, there are dozens of stadiums in the world that can compete with it.

For a purely VIEWING stadium, I must admit that Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane is very, very good.

Go to England people will say Wembley (even with the double budget and ten million years late)

Go to Germany and people will say the olympic stadium or the new ufo one.

Or to America and people will say Ford Field or one of those massive college joints like the collesium or the buck eyes joint.

Everywhere you go your going to get bias with a topic like this.

Not our fault they are wrong;)

The MCG just seems to hold onto crowd sounds. When you hear the cry of "BAAAALLLLLL .... YEEAAAHHHH" it is like it shakes your bones. In big games the crowd numbers are always evenly split. I've been to a few stadiums around the world and there is nothing like it.

The SCG beats it hands down. Where else can you park your front end loader and watch AFL football from the comfort of the cab?

i remember watching merv hughes bowling the last over to the windies in the late 80s, early 90s? and the whole crowd going 'mervyn' 'mervyn' it didn't stop ringing in my ears for hours.

it was quite possibly from an audience perspective the most enthralling single over of cricket ever at the MCG.

Allianz Arena

Allianzarenacombo.jpg

looks like a giant tyre but the lights are awesome. the facade is lit up in a colour depending on which home team is playing there (Bayern Munich or 1860), and white when the national team is playing.

When you see the Allianz stadium like that, gee it looks shit hot but at the end of the day, you don't go to a stadium to look at its facade, its the action inside.

Not in a position to judge if its the best in the world, but the G is a bloody great stadium and with it (Hopefully) filled to the brim tomorrow, the roar of the crowd just after the last post is someting to behold.

A stadium is not about its looks, rather the experience you have there...

Gabba is a far better footy stadium than the MCG - barely a poor seat in the house whilst there are literally 10,000s of bad ones at the MCG

Ive been to 4 GFs and every single time I would've been better off watching it in the pub

The Gabba

Your kidding Right! Its the Dullest stadium going around. Atmosphere is non existent when teh footy is on. Tesltra Stadium in Sydney is miles ahead of the gabba, and still miles behind The G

yeah it is shit hot, especially at night. i would say the G's the best (although lets face it ive only been to scg, old wembley/anfield - outside, Staples Center and San Diego State's bball arena) so in comparison the G is the best (and so many memories too!)

Suncorp No need to chuck a roof on it... Its in Queensland
There ISNT a bad seat in the house, and is perfect for the other football codes, right on top of the action...
Been there for Socceroos games, State of Origins and bledisloe cups... best rectangular stadium in this country...

Whilst the G is an amazing stadium, with a an amazing history and fond to many footy fans. I am just saying that their is a lot of bias and it would probably wouldnt rate a blip on the radar around the world.

What I would like to know is, those of you who rate the G so highly. How many stadia have you been to? Where, to view what? What criteria are you judging it on?

Firstly, I was talking about the viewing side of things.

Gabba is great, G is poor - v good depending upon where you sit, Telstra is without the worst stadium for any code anywhere in the world that it has been my misfortune to visit

Secondly, in terms of atmosphere, I've watched my team win a grand final at the G whilst a non-paying corporate guest of the losing side.

Every fan's dream right? - wrong

Best stadium by a mile,my first visit there was 01,Coll v Rich and 90,000 people and it blew me away seeing these two big fan bases going off.Have been many times since and done a few tours aswell.Love the place.Have been to every other ground in the country and they dont compare. That craphole here in Perth is the worst.Shit seating, too expensive, crap parking and the list goes on.

Cause it's the only one that can cater for it besides Telstra Stadium. Even Telstra Stadium would struggle and it would only work if Sydney were a competing side. What other stadium in Australia can fit in the 70,000 corporate mugs that the Grand Final attracts? None.

:thumbsu: Without doubt, it has to be the best stadium in Australia and maybe one of the best in the World...
Other AFL grounds are expanding, and good to see, but they will always lack the charisma of the Mighty MCG.

I preferred Moorabbin, especially when they forgot to turn the sprinklers off on the Friday night.

The MCG is for poonces: cushioned seats, self-contained urinals, cafe lattes, salad foccacias, hot showers for the players and two TV screens for instant replay.

Moorabbin was for real men: crushed gravel to stand on, overflowing piss troughs, tins of beer to chuck at Gary Sidebottom, cold meat pies, cold showers and a punch in the head if you looked sideways in the animal enclosure.

Went there many a time with the g/f to see Saints. All I really heard was the booing from St Kilda supporters. Every time I went, they booed.

Musta been me, they were booing.
