Gonna come down to how the AFL wants this to play out - do they really want their top 2 best talents not winning the Rising Star this year? Will they be happy to gift it to someone who is 3rd, 4th, 5th best or lower? How prestigious do they want the award to be?

We may be the rare beneficiaries of an "executive decision" here, lads.

Reid kicking 6 against the team that didn't want him will be great viewing full of meme potential too. AFL loves the hype and publicity.

That's how I'm seeing it too.

Do we know if rising star nomination is enough for a 3rd year contract restructuring?

I recall reading conflicting information.

Assuming you need to actually win the rising star award for that to be triggered then Harley might have cost himself 1.5 million.

Can't say the contract department at wce is mad. Although it is a perfect opportunity for us to show faith to Harley and give him the bonus out of good faith

So is the Rising Star Award a fairest & best? I did not know that.

Suspect this one might be needed this week.

Arms free, one motion, played out the game. It’ll be given a week, they’ll appeal, and we’ll see you all here for the spin of the wheel!

Time will tell, of course, but I reckon he might just cop a fine. Tackle is not the worst of its kind; Wilson seemingly unaffected; HR9 is very young and has no record; first time he has ever had to cope with a hard tag; his future is bright (including the RS) and he is a great drawcard for the AFL. Overall, suspension would be too harsh a penalty at this stage of his career: it would be manifestly unjust.

Yeah, nah.
Shouldn't matter if you've played 10 games or 100 games.

It's worth a week.

Re-watching that tackle slowed down, There's not much Harley did wrong if anything. The main issue is that the player took on the tackle, tried to spin out of it and left the ground in doing so while Harley was trying to drop his weight to bring them to ground.
He didn't really sling the player as much as that player brought his own momentum into the tackle.

Good chance he gets a fine at most for this one.
The main concern will be if they try and go the "potential for injury" route.
If he cops a week i'd contest it for sure.

No chance any suspension is not going to be contested by the club IMO.

Exactly, it’ll allow him to head back to Victoria a week earlier leading into the bye. Wouldn’t be surprised if they even let him stay over there and hook up with the team for the Essendon game.

Not sure how the training/S&C aspect would be dealt with though. Maybe some one on one sessions with Inness who may also head home to Victoria for the bye?

You’re confusing guilt with penalty. Every criminal offence (for example) might carry a certain maximum penalty, but sentencing varies widely. And youth and the other factors I mentioned always affect the sentencing process. All you’ve done (to calculate what it’s “worth”) is look at the tackle itself, while ignoring factors personal to HR9 – otherwise the word “worth” has no meaning.

Anyway, we’ll all know pretty soon.

If someone did that to Reid, we would expect a suspension. It’s the rules now.

I do agree that it is borderline. even letting him go would have resulted in Wilson landing on the back because he decided to execute a flying kick.

It is exactly what the furore the week prior was about (too slow with HTB). Guy had prior, wanted to throw a boot at the footy to avoid a free.

Didn’t pin arms, didn’t smash him into the turf (the sling action was during the tackle where HR was making a reasonable attempt to stop an effective kick).

So yeah, probably a week because AFL but I think we challenge (has anyone ever been suspended just for a jumper tackle? I.e. no arm pin etc?)
