Nah. Nice fella but I don't think so. Chance for a midfielder to get an inroad into the team by playing this role and helping out an always late season fading midfield.

He genuinely looks like he is skating on ice or on a treadmill when putting in a chase. Has always been the case.
Yeh sure he got on the end of a few against Hawks and Gerard Healy talked him up as gun player who for some reasons wasn’t playing. He just isn’t up to it too slow, too average and no tricks.
Surely we have appeased the Willie Creek Pearl sponsorship the tick off by giving him the extra year. Has to go I’m sorry.

Blind Freddy can see he isn't suited as a pressure forward. If he was any slower he would be standing still. Reasonable inside mid at WAFL level . That's it.
It’s pretty obvious due to his height he’s pigeon holed as a medium forward.
His best season, his first, was towelling up the opposition’s best mid. Scrapped and protected Fyfe etc. Lyon gave up on his tagger and decided to rebuild without it. That doomed Banfield. He’s actually a good midfielder.
I think good is over stating it a bit. Average at best. As Salim he is a good midfielder at WAFL. Send him back to WAFL to play mid and if he dominates and a spot in the Freo midfield opens up sure but has been very poor two weeks in a row.
That part of play where his opponent ran forward and Banfield was jogging slowly behind is rather damning vision. He was prob trying his best but happens time and again.

I would like him to be given a run as an inside mid. Give him the rest of the year and see what we see. He is big bodied and it is his most “natural“ position. We might find a decent midfielder who can be a bull at the contest or we confirm he is just WAFL level and delist anyway. With Fyfe and Walter out there is an opportunity.

I agree with the poster above. Give the man a chance as a midfielder. JLo needs to try different things. Switch things around...

Not a terrible idea. I mean Curnow manages to get a game as an inside mid and he is pretty limited (until he plays like a brownlow medallist against us)

Faith is a fickle thing on these boards sometimes.
Myself I'm backing his character. I think he has the tools, and hopefully he can respond and improve... though I can also appreciate why I'm probably in the minority right now.

I don’t think soon-to-be 3 time AA Tom Stewart was too concerned by Baileys 2 disposals in the Geelong game.
The one thing that separates established AFL players from fringe players is consistency. Week in week our performance at a decent level.
Freo fans should know that better than most.

I think we actually need 2 Bailey Banfields tomorrow.
One needs to play medium sized forward because he’s the only one left who can and we are structurally shot without one.
The other needs to go into the midfield and tag Elliot Yeo out of the game. We will get smashed going head to head in the midfield. It’s time to bring back the tag.
