It's ridiculous that Madrid are not going to the award because they think they didn't win.
It’s ridiculous that Real Madrid don’t think the people voting wouldn’t be tripping over themselves to make sure a Real Madrid player wins.

I cannot stand the Ballon d’Or, it highlights the worst of what football has become.

Well done to Rodri, brilliant player who deserves all the plaudits. But the reaction from what looks like anyone and everyone associated with Real Madrid is so pathetic and embarrassing.

****ing influencers like Speed are there too. ****ing joke.

Martinez named best goalkeeper second year in a row. Weren't people on here complaining about Villa calling him the world's best?

Gauci should leave to become a first team keeper elsewhere. Going to be at least 2-3 years min, possibly more, before he gets that opportunity at Villa by the look of it.

Nah I think he's learning plenty at Villa, getting chances in the Cup competitions and will get a higher profile, then can look to move out in the next few years if he doesn't have a path to the Villa first team. No need to rush it though.

Yeah and I think if one of the European heavyweights came calling Martinez could leave. If Gauci impresses in the cup competitions he could end up being a first choice premier league keeper soon.

Bit late in his career for that isn't it? I don't see it getting any better than Villa in Europe for him. Chelsea need a new keeper but they're not going to buy a 32 year old. Would Martinez even entertain Utd considering the state they are in? They need an upgrade on Onana.

The only other upgrades in the PL are Liverpool (covered with Mamadashvilli already), Arsenal (they are committed to Raya) and City who may be moving on Ederson in the next few years but don't see why they would buy another keeper heading into his mid 30s.

I mean Martinez has just signed until 2029 at Villa. How long will Gauci bide his time for? We have the same issue with Kelleher who will undoubtedly be leaving this summer.

That should actually tell you that clubs don’t consider 32 too old for a goalkeeper, the fact he is that age right now and just got a 5 year extension.

Big clubs don't sign keepers heading into their mid 30s though generally. You'll find in the PL out of all the big 6 clubs only Peter Cech was signed in his 30s as a #1 keeper. And in that case, Cech had been superseded by a better, younger keeper.

There's a difference between being 32 in the middle of a contract to signing a new keeper at 32 on a 5 year deal for a big transfer fee.
