Hi Posters,

I was just thinking I would get some opinions on this.
Below are the players who are currently good/great who I believe might make the step up to stars next season. Full on stars.
I believe they are the top chances to take the next step.

Foley (Richmond = Great)
Thomas (Collingwood = Great)
Pendlebury (Collingwood = Good)
Mclean (Melbourne = Great)
Sylvia (Melbourne = Good)
Stanton (Essendon = Good)
Priddis (West Coast = Great)
Thompson (Adelaide = Great)
Griffin (Western Bulldogs = Good)
Murphy (Carlton = Good)

In my opinion id say the biggest chances of becoming top line superstars in 2008 are Murphy, Mclean, Priddis, Thomas and Foley.

What are your thoughts on these players? Why or why not do you think they will never be superstars? Who might take the step at your club? Discuss.

Well i'm an essendon supporter so i suppose i should comment on Stants. I think he will be a similar 'size' player to Jason Johnson. Consistently got high possessions, was always a very good midfielder but didn't quite have the skills to really make it as an elite player. JJ still won a B&F at the club and i'm sure stanton will too.

I think Winderlich has a better chance of becoming a star than Stanton. Will be very interesting to watch this year. Has the pace and the skill.

Gibbs, Murphy and Walker will all become elite mids.

From other sides. Pendelbury yes, Thomas....ah no!!!

Like the look of Selwood, Griffin and Stanton. But i think it will be from Carlton that we start to see the next fab 6 arriving.

Judd has chosen very well.

I knew a Carlton supporter would say all 3 will be stars next year.
If all 3 of them plus Judd ended up being able to be a best player on most teams, then you won't lose a game for 10 years.
However next season, I believe only Murphy has the potential to be a SUPER(keyword)star.

Adam Cooney was held back by Osteitis this year (didnt take part in any proper training until the season actualyl started) and just needs to add consistency to his game to go to the next level and become a super star.

Murphy and Gibbs will be future stars but Walker i dont think can hack it, not very hard, doesnt use his pace, shocking kick, exciting at times but wont be a star.

IMO

Nathan Foley, because i'm a richmond supporter

Grant Birchall will become a Brownlow medalist
Porplyzia will be a fantasic forward pocket and he is quite strong overhead
Nathan Jones, huge hard nut
Travis Boak will tear them to bits, maybe needs a few years though
Andrew Swallow will become a great inside midfielder
Shaun Higgins (Missy Shiggins - new nickname) will become a forward/midfielder

One player I'm really looking forward to stepping up next year is Nathan Djerrkura. Was mentioned in the same sentence as Selwood by Bomber Thompson as a possible debutant as early as Round 1, but injuries severely interrupted his season. Has been likened to Byron Pickett, and will probably be as good for us as Stokes has been. :thumbsu:

Jesse Smith will definitely... 2 years short of joining the elite

Daniel Pratt will push for AA selection next year.. stiff not to get nominated this year

Aaron Edwards showed some good late season form.. should kick 30-40 goals next year

also look out for Hamish McIntosh (to join the ranks with cox and ottens), Josh Gibson, Ed Lower and Daniel Wells(next year must be his year to really shine)

On a Collingwood perspective - I rate Pendlebury more than Thomas however see Thomas having the greater room to develop. If he can put on some kg's and build a bigger engine then look out.

There are loads of others like Shaw and Clarke that I reckon will improve, but the number one that I can see becoming a super star next year is Didak.

As an Eagles fan, Priddis was one of our few highlights for the year. However, he was a fairly mature recruit and had just come off a strong season in the WAFL. He's not some skinny 18 year old kid. In other words, I don't think there is much upside to his game and I'd be surprised if he gets any better. If anything, I reckon he'll drop a notch in 2008 as he starts to draw more attention from taggers.

Expect a big 2008 from Shannon Hurn, though. That kid is a gun.

Swallow and Dubya Smith to take the next step. Wells if uninjured to stay in pre-knee injury form from this year :thumbsu:
From other sides: Foley, Jones, Gibbs, Murphy, Griffin, Pendlebury, Selwood all to shine in '08.

I agree about Jones and Porplyzia.
I believe Jones will be top 5 midifelders in 2-3 years time. But he won't be a superstar next year.

Shut up with all them players.

Robert Warnock - Best young ruckman I have ever seen probably. Warnock>>>Sandilands its not funy and the bloke is young. He is a gun. Can tap, run, can actually kick and handpass and is working with our midfield nicely as well.

McIntosh will always be better than Warnock mate, clearly you haven't seen enough of him if you think Warnock is a better young ruckman.

yes warnock better than sandilands...(thats not hard i guess) but hamish mcintosh is the best young ruckmen in the comp...hands down.

I think Young, Birchall, Ellis and McGlynn will have massive years in 08.
Players like Lewis, Sewell, Roughead and Franklin will just further add to their caliber.

Its usually players in their 4th-6th years that take the step to elite.

Only freaks like Judd can get there before their 4th year
