This is an invigorating read to sustain us thru the bye...
i found that very interesting about fyfe. 6th in the comp for effective clearances means he basically getting maximum bang for his buck from clearance

I aree wrt Fyfe. I was very gratified to see the stat. You get the impression that he is having a huge impact on the function of our midfield but it has been hard to quantify. That effective clearances stat highlights what he is doing - winning hard ball and bringing others into the game. I hope this silences those who have been calling for his retirement on the basis that he is too slow, gets caught etc. It also suggests that he can keep playing beyond 2024.

Got the formation of a pretty good footy team, bit more elite talent from the draft. Coach who will be coaching for his life, next year I feel the team will be threatening. Not this year unfortunately
I wouldn't be so sure. Sure the Melbourne game had a lot to do with them being sub-par (though Mark Stone's analysis is worth a listen - he essentially says although they didn't show up in the second half, it was due to Freo destroying them in the first) but you often see sides on the rise have a breakout game after a period of nearly putting it together. That well may be that game; we were excellent against the Swans and exhausted against the Pies, and have been threatening a game like this for a while. It remains to be seen if we can stand up to a high-pressure outfit, and if Darcy remains fit, but we could put together a run heading into finals, even with the draw we have. Being Freo, we're better off being pessimistic, but it feels like it's coming together.

I’ve really notice Fyfe’s physicality at stoppages, he throws people out of the way, half the time he then wins the ball but just as often it’s a team mate, where the oppo had prime position before he went beast mode.

So he really doesn’t get stats for the some of what he is doing inside, and if you are watching the ball instead of the players you wouldn’t see it. Also impossible to notice most of the players in the background much of the time at the ground, only on tv with the close shots.

If we make finals where it is super physical it’d play to his strengths this season.

where can i listen to mark stone?

It's weekly on Wednesday night on 6PR. Only 15-20 mins but always worth a listen, even to the Eagles stuff.
I think it's been great, I've loved it and wished there was more of it in the media.
We should give it a pump up so more people get the chance to listen to some actual analysis rather David King brain farts.

Mark makes David King look like Victoria's Peter Sumich. Which is fitting because he pretty much is.

With all the negativity on here I want to give a positive shoutout to Brayshaw. He has done a Barlow and gone from an horrific set shot to pretty good the last few weeks. I'm not automatically expecting him to miss anymore.

Bump

At least we aren’t Carlton supporters 🙃
What a shit show

If the Slime beat them this week it could be an all time choke

A few thoughts.

Young may be a top 5 player in the league next year.

Treacy has emerged as a gun.

Sturt is now what we hoped he could be.

If Jackson can take whatever Treacy has this season and start holding the marks he drops, our forward line will be amazing. It is definitely a realistic possibility.

Very frustrating end to the year, but we can rocket up the ladder if the team corrects the close loses.

It’s not like last year where we were just regularly woeful.
