The possibility of Essendon innocence: a travesty of justice or conspiracy theory for the ages?

Regardless of what you think of the club, Hird, Robinson or Dank, the players have been utterly stitched up.

- pushed back against the program to get clarity that it was in line with wada
- interviewed with asada without the presence of legal counsel on the basis that the investigation was about Dank, not about them
- names smeared in the press through a coordinated leak of exaggerated information and often complete untruths
- banned from the 2013 finals series after a 14 win season
- twice cleared by Australian tribunals in 2014 and 2015
- banned again in 2016 by a Swiss court based on a ‘strands in a cable’ analogy that has no legal precedent
- Dank and Robinson suffer no penalties
- Abused (both them and their families including children) publicly in the streets for being drug cheats

A stitch up and a disgrace.

Fair enough go the club, fair enough go the people in charge, fair enough to the blokes who did this at cronulla, GCS, Essendon and probably Geelong, but the players don’t deserve this miscarriage of justice.

Ok, I will bite! So when do these players actually come out and actively question Hird, Dank and/or Robinson?

Injected with what? Nobody admitted TB4. 12 other clubs were found to inject so called legitimate substances as well. What was in those needles?
It always helps to have a qualified doctor doing the injecting on site and keeping meticulous records so if ASADA come sniffing around you have a paper trail.

Instead EFC had every Carlton supporters favourite Bomber, Dean Wallis filling out the spreadsheet while he was banned from coaching due to betting on games. Clearly not the sharpest tool in the shed that one.

one of the contentious issues I have never understood is how Essendrug got pick #1 in 2016. Yes, they finished bottom of the table, but why reward them? If they had been wound up, as they should have been, a Tassie team could have been bought in.
Yet your lot always begs for a home game against every year...and gets it most of the time.

I think the contrasting approaches taken by administrators after the Essendon drug and the Australian ball-tampering scandals are an interesting case-study in pr management.

On one hand you have Essendon who fought tooth and nail against any insinuation of mall-practice. They used sympathetic elements in the media to push their agenda, refused to give ground, obfuscated the message and kept moving the goal posts. First it was nothing at all, then legal injections, then only Dank etc etc. When the players were finally banned, there was very little public sympathy and Essendon had used up any goodwill they might have had.

Conversely and rightly or wrongly the ACB imposed fairly draconian penalties. Players were banned, administrators were forced out, the coach was sacked etc. There were public displays of contrition, which in hindsight were more than a bit ghoulish, but I genuinely think they helped the Australian public come to grips with the scandal.

Now there are clearly differences, one was caught on tape and the other was certainly more technical, made harder by Essendon's efforts to erase any paper trail. But at the end of the day, both resulted in seismic upheaval and players sitting out for a year.

Today Australians have by in large erased the memories of the ball-tampering saga. I'd argue that even Warner is viewed more positively now, while Smith is viewed as some sort of tragic god. On the other hand, Essendon still carries with it a stench that Newscorp and misguided supporters continue to perpetuate.

You have to wonder if Essendon had just got on the front foot and showed real contrition, then blamed Dank & Robinson as some sort of rogue operators and ultimately admitted to governance failures, they would have controlled the narrative and club would have been better off.

We want justice and will keep digging until the truth is unearthed for all to see.
?

The players took banned drugs.

What else is there really to see?

They were conned by the club? Well derrr.

Watching Essendon supporters 'support the boys' and 'stand by Hird' whilst also 'supporting the club' is just so mindblowingly difficult to comprehend.

Who do they think injected these kids with banned drugs FFS???

In a nutshell, what is the most positive outcome for Essendon digging up bones in this situation?

It must be decent.

I honestly don't think they are. It seems to be deranged fans with some sort of profile, aggrieved ex-players/staff members and media fanbois at Newscorp.

And they aren't doing the club any favours, just allowing us non-Essendon supporters to twist the needle a bit further.

Lets just say oppo fans will call em drug cheats, blues will always be salary cap cheats, and history has been kind to the mags they just have poor dental hygiene. Who would have thought? (theft is only a petty crime, no teeth and bad breath is infinitely worse)

Victory..that’s the outcome we will have.

We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.

I have a contact at the National Crime Authority. They are far from innocent. End of story.
Heard from someone with similar connections that they were lucky TB4 was the only thing that was substantiated, the hole could have been much deeper had they been able to use a different shovel

Reid was a dissenting voice. He’d asked Hird whether “he would want his own children being subjected to the injections.” Essendon’s own medical staff (I don’t include Dank/Robinson as medical staff) wouldn’t do it. Having ‘Dr. Moreau‘ off-site and Dank stabbing players ad-hoc were the only options they had.....
