Makes a lot more sense now, tbh given that it's based on the last 8 weeks I would have thought we'd be even higher in the offence category.

Of those 8 games, played one top 4 side (Geelong) along with competitive sides in Adelaide, Richmond, West Coast and the Bulldogs.

We'd be averaging nearly 100 points though and in a season like this, that's extremely high. But I guess Hawthorn and Sydney (probably) will tend to do a better job in that department given their gameplans and firepower.

...what's your point? I was responding to the inconsistency of the poster who said that the Freo win against the Swans in PF was overrated, and then when challenged said Freo lost the GF because they didn't bring the same pressure "across the Nullabor."

Or am I missing the point and you just wanted a chance to say Ross Lyon is ruining football?

I'm not saying Ross Lyon is ruining football at all. But what he does is not particularly aesthetically pleasing.

That game in Freo was overrated. Freo's pressure was great, but Sydney and Freo created a game style that was overly congested and allowed Freo to do what they did. The following week the Hawks spread the ball a bit more, took away some of the congestion and Freo could not do the same as they did the week before. The pressure was no different, it is just that the ball spent more time in space. Sydney played into Freo's hands.

Is this taken over the whole season or since a certain round?
Probably since round 6 or 7 because their stats weren't good for the first part of the season, same as Sydney. They've won 8 in a row, and all of them bar one were against lower table opposition.

personally, i would rather watch an ugly congested game where my team wins than a free flowing game where my team loses....but thats just me.
I enjoy watching the free flowing open attacking football style of say Hawthorn or Port, but as long as they are not playing us!
Win at all costs I say, regardless of how ugly it is ;)!!

But that's what Hawthorn have done against Freo for five+ years (aside from the 2010 final).

And in that time Freo have been on the receiving end of some god awful thrashings. It seems Hawthorn have long had the class, especially from defence, to keep the ball out of Freo's hands. Hawthorn were the better team on the day and all year and Fremantle screwed a good many things up, but that the margin was so small and Freo were still in it at 3QT says Freo did a lot of things right.

I know these are predictions but how can people be so confident to say 'you won't win' or 'top 4 locked in'

Guess we'll see Friday night hey.

Confidence? Yeah I was wrong north beat the hawks, hell it was so much of an upset many thought it spelt the demise of Hawthorn.

North still won't make top 4. I explained why they need the world to topple over.

I think you mean 'probably' won't. Remember last time you said won't? #neverlearn

this is a predictions thread no half arsing make a claim and back it!

If i'm wrong, meh just means we get a chance at revenge for round 4.
FWIW I don't think North will make top 4 and am also certain the flag will be won by Swans, Dockers, Hawks or Geelong. Pretty obvious call but Port and North seem a long way off it.

North are more than capable or beating ANY of those 4 teams but backing it up and then again drops the odds dramatically.

Everyone's forgetting that we still have a 2-3 goal a game small forward to come back by the name of Sonny Walters, and with Ballantyne in his current form, our forward line starts to look more dynamic and dangerous.

And small forwards are massive in finals. I still think it is a major weakness for Sydney that could cost them.

Really? I've always seen them as the type that goes missing.

See Milne, Davis, Ballantyne last year. It's an unforgiving position in a big final.

I think it's a time when goal kicking midfielders generally decide who wins. Last year it was a bit of an anomaly with Lake and Gunston being the best two on ground.
