You were 2.5 wins behind Eagles (4th) during H&A in 2011, that is a a fair gap.

But yes, 2011 is Carlton's best season in almost 25 years so no wonder Carlton fans have fond memories.

Why are people still bothering to bump this thread?

Brisbane actually completed their rebuild and have been a top4 team that consitently wins 15+ H&A games and are playing in PFs since 2019.
We lost to the Eagles by less than a goal in the 2nd week of finals for a spot in the preliminary in 2011. You do realise we would have finished top 4 if we had? Or do you consider that the Bulldogs finished in 7th (their ladder position) in 2016 as opposed to winning the flag?

2011 was 12 seasons after we played in a grand final in 1999 and 16 after we won the flag in 1995 so I doubt that it was our best in 25 years.

The reason the thread gets bumped is that people such as yourself took great delight in telling all and sundry how obvious it was where carlton had failed in their rebuild. So I ask again if you could kindly point out where my team went wrong?

Carlton lost a SF and were 2.5 games behind 4th, that is a solid team at best.

The Bulldogs were 1 game behind 4th, and actually won finals.

Chalk and cheese (a pretender v a contender).

This thread was started in 2017.

Carlton are still yet to even make finals, let alone finish top4, like Brisbane has done for the last 5 years.

But yes, the Baggers have proven the naysayers wrong...their rebuild was better than Brisbane.

???

I was posting in this thread back in 2017-18, back when Carlton fans were trying to argue they were the correct answer.

But that was before Brisbane made the leap to a top4 team back in 2019 and Carlton were still sacking coaches and
slowly realising that a large number of their list management decisions and drafting from 2016-2019 held them back.

Not sure why Bagger fans bump this when it just highlights how dissapointing they have been.

Come on. You posted in may this year that it was easy to see the flaws in carltons rebuild 4 or 5 years ago and they are still impacting.

You have been asked politely what these flaws are that are easy for you to see. Not too hard a question.

The players they traded in during SOS era were woeful, especially compared to Brisbane. Carlton brought in kids or list cloggers who added no value and helped did nothing to change the poor culture. Brisbane brought in Hodge, C.Cameron, L.Neale, McCarthy, M.Adams

Carlton then also had plenty of misses with first round draft picks from 2016-2019 apart from Walsh - SPS, Dow, O'Brien, Stocker - compared to Brisbane who added McCluggage, Bailey, Berry, Starcevich, Rayner.

It was obvious to many back in 2018-19 that Carlton were still miles off, and so it has proven.

Proof is in the pudding - since 2019 Brisbane have been a top4 team for 5 consecutive years, Carlton have still been sacking coaches and best finish has been 9th.

If Carlton had built properly do you really think Weitering would be a 150 gamer in his 8th season but yet to play a final??

No idea why a Carlton fan would want to drag these threads up?

You do this in all Carlton related threads, you have had Suns, Dockers, Essendon all head of us at some point in time

All clubs have poor recruiting and list management, clearly even the Pies

As it stands, I don't know of any club that has the blueprints "How to win ever flag" or "101 list management "

Thanks for finally answering the question. You seem to have forgotten that Weitering, Curnow, mckay and Cuningham were first rounders during the period you nominated so the numbers are not as skewed as you would have us believe.

What has slowed our rebuild down is the amount of players that have had long term injuries. Some of these were buyer beware like Martin, Zac Williams and McGovern and others like Charlie and Cuningham are good footballers who's impact has taken longer to be seen due to injury.

Despite recent injuries to gun players we have some if our long term injured showing what they can do. We're probably two years behind were we'd like to have been but we should have some fun over the next five years because our list looks good, we have some good kids on the list and we have some father sons on the horizon that might end up o.k..

We might even end up having more success in the short to medium term than the Lions.

It was debated five years ago.

I didnt forget them, they were all from the 2015 draft, Lions took Scache and Hipwood (supposed to be their key forwards sorted too).

It was Carlton's woeful drafting from 2016-19 that held them back.

It was also completing disregarding the need to bring in any solid players back when SOS was bringing in GWS kids and the long list of list cloggers that have been detailed many times.

Bringing in some G.Hewett types back in 2015-17 instead of A.Mullet or Fasolo

Lions have played in PFs despite losing guys like Rayner and Hipwood (and now Ashcroft) to ACLs.

If any fans deserve a few good seasons, it is Carlton fans.
We might even end up having more success in the short to medium term than the Lions.
Who knows...Bagger fans were saying the same thing back in 2018 too, one thing Bagger fans are good at is building the hype.

The Mitch Robinson cup just got a bit spicier.

Or should it be the Fev Fiesta?

Pressures on Charlie next year, as Dunstall was alluding to.

The best key forwards in history step up in finals, always have.

If you are the opposite and wilt in finals, you are going to become a meme very quickly.....
