Doesn't matter who is just "opposed". It matters who actually cares. If it's a hill they will die on, if they will shift their vote to stop the stadium. The majority of people who are opposed probably don't really care all the much. It's why we see small anti-rallies.

Exactly right.
Go around to one of these rallies and ask the protesters what team they support and guaranteed you'd get blank looks.

New EMRS poll finds Northern Tasmanians are most against new stadium.

I guess this isn't a surprise.

I bet those in Hobart are against the York Park upgrades.

Also, the clubs are not happy…

Hey, I thought we needed a thread to discuss all things around the Hobart Macquarie Point stadium! What should it be called (e.g. the devil's den), its design, capacity and what amenities/carpark/railway/corporate facilities it needs to succeed.

Feel free to discuss all things stadium related below! :thumbsu: (Non-Tasmanian supporters who are anti-stadium should probably just stick to the mainboard, plenty of threads there to argue against our existence in)
Like The Facebook dropped The, Devils Den drop the Devils and Just be the Den.

The blowouts are so much to do with the delays that protesting etc. is causing.
It's inevitable, let it happen NIMBY clowns.
I love how that town hall meeting just had white haired people there, it's not even relevant to you lot, you'll be dead by the time we get a team.

All they have to do is make a decent case without pie-in-the-sky fantasising and they'll start winning everyone over. At the moment all anyone can see is a billion dollar black hole.

A brand new stadium with all the bells and whistles would be nice, but it is far from necessary

according to sen this morning, recent polling has the majority of islanders opposed to the stadium. some quite strong headwinds., unfortunately.
Just trying to create drama, people believe stats that are poorly reported.
EMRS calls home phones, I used to work there. Find me a young person with one of those.

Listen to Dean Coleman 2.0 here. Number 3 on the list.

don’t shoot the messenger. it's not unusual to conduct polling by phone. in fact, i'd go so far as to say it's common practice. 1000 is a reasonable sample.

i know they have a bone to pick but the mk2 group were equally apprehensive during an sen interview today. burying your head in the sand achieves very little.

It's a reasonable sample size, but representative of what? Phone polls have not worked in a long time, as they don't capture young votes.

Coleman has a vested interest in Macq 2.

He's going to be spinning things in his favour to get his project in a favourable light as opposed to Macq 1.

He'd be loving the fact that that far from reliable survey was slanted in the negative for Macq 1.

Ninja and Utas were always going to be used in 2028, with Macquarie Point to come online for the start of 2029.

If not, then they’ll use Ninja and UTas for that season too with the Tasmanian Government to pay the Devils $4.5m extra, to make up for lost revenue from not playing at MP.

They can theoretically play at existing grounds for several seasons if the government is happy to keep funding it, but doing so for any longer than 1-2 years would be robbing the club, not to mention severely diminish its appeal to sponsors, players, members etc.

Its estimated that each year the stadium is delayed, $80m is added to the build cost too.

A 7-4 Utas/Ninja split in year one is fine, not ideal but workable in year two but unacceptable by 2030.

Depends on what government is in charge by then and realistically who has the balance of power.

caro interview with brendan.

"One month into his new role as Tasmania Devils chief, Brendon Gale does not shy away from the unique challenges posed in running a football club without a football team.

“It’s hard,” admitted Tasmania’s new chief executive. “On the one hand you’re hard-wired to the cyclical nature of footy and I don’t have a dog in the fight right now."

What a beautiful and very blessed part of the world we live in when the biggest political debate we are having right now is whether we build a stadium or not.
Can you imagine how much progress will happen in 15 years when all the NIMBYs are gone?
