Hey guys, long-time lurker and first-time poster.

I thought you might be interested in this story I wrote about Geelong v Essendon at Brisbane's Exhibition Ground in 1952. I was lucky enough to speak to all the living players from the match (we've since lost three of them) and it turned into a really interesting yarn.

A few points:
*It was meant to be under lights on the Saturday but the Ekka ground managers refused to let them play because of a thunderstorm
*The Geelong boys thought the game was called off so got on the turps after having a win at the races
*The match was moved to Monday night and the Bombers flogged the Cats
*Coleman kicked 13, with Geelong's champion fullback Bruce Morrison playing for Victoria in SOO - something the Cats players were pissed about
*It was the smallest ground ever played on for a VFL match, rendering Geelong's lethal halfback line useless
*It sparked Geelong's record-breaking winning run, going 23 games without a loss

Have a look here if you'd like, I really enjoyed writing it: https://thehickeystand.com/2020/04/...ent-the-bombers-and-cats-to-the-ekka-in-1952/

Good writing and very interesting. As a relative newbie to the sport and trying to learn the history, this was valuable.
