fail uh-oh! GIF

i have built a small house with bush poles and mud brick and ferro cement, wrecker-sourced woodstove, sash windows and corro and hard rubbish and tip everything else, with passive solar design [not rocket science] for total cash outlay $2,000

That's the way mate, simple techniques, go hard on the recycle - the 'problem' is easily solvable if government got out of the way.

however

the construction industry can build you a house that will cost more to heat and cool in a year than my total outlay for 300k and thats "cheap", is thermally facked up needing 8 split systems cos no eaves, aligned to the street not the sun etc etc you know the drill

Yep, gotta blindly stumble their way into an energy crisis cooling and heating the junk builds while they're at it. ;)

But wait, it's OK, just cover the enormous roof in solar panels, replace them and the dozen air-cons every decade or two...forever.

Then the build will be 'green and sustainable.'

All over QLD rural councils are paying $400-600K to get thousands of hideously designed and contructed pre-fab junk kit houses sent out to them so they can house essential workers...all full of toxic carpets (often in 40C+ heat), PVC walls etc. and an air-con needed in every room.

Then the same councils smash residents with rate rises to cover the cost...hounding anyone living in a bus/caravan/shed to get a legit house tomorrow or else etc...when it's blatantly obvious to everyone that the improvised houses are better than the ones they import for a fortune.

Heaps of them end up vacant because the essential workers go find a shed/bus/van to live in - cheaper and more comfortable!

A few people I know with prescriptions recently had their dosage randomly doubled without asking...at face value it really seems like the companies want the patients to all become part-time suppliers for them. ;)
Yeah 100%.. it will get people wanting more resulting in the people putting more pressure on the government to legalize it

Smart business
