You do not have to be in the running to win to attend the olympics. You just have to qualify. Which she did.

Agree with the first part, but you go there to represent your country and do your best to try and win.

Not just 'socialise' and have some fun, which you seem to be giving her a leave pass for.

To compete at the Olympics, you're expected to be at least "good" as you descrive it.

I hear this all the time. What jobs exactly are these that they are getting paid less for though?
It can't be jobs with award wages as that would be illegal I would think, so which jobs are they?
And what counts as experience? Number of years in the job.
At a total guess, these jobs are probably in male dominated industries where there is a weight of numbers to the men. Just perhaps if there is one woman and 9 men she could be say 4th best of all of them, so 5 or 6 earn more because they are better at the job and 2 or 3 earn less because they are worse. So on average the woman would earn less.
I'm sure there are also cases where they do earn less just because they are female, statistics never tell the whole storey though.

100%. Factoring award wages, it is illegal for companies to pay men and women different rates for doing the same job. The fact is, Men earn more because they do the dirty, hard jobs that women don't want to do. Women also on average, work less. It stands to reason that if you work less hours in a job that pays less, you of course are going to be paid less.

You find this in the Salary worlds. Officers, coordinators, aAdvisors, all levels of "Professions" and "Managers" that operate outside of awards one minimum wage has been surpassed.
