The largest fossilized human coprolite ever discovered, belonging to a Viking from the 9th century AD, has garnered significant interest and is currently valued at approximately $39,000. Referred to as the Lloyds Bank Coprolite, this remarkable specimen measures 8 inches in length and 2 inches in width, exemplifying the process of fossilization of fecal matter. The artifact was unearthed in 1972 by construction workers in York, northwest England, while they were building a branch of Lloyds TSB in an area historically ruled by Norse warriors. The term coprolite is used to denote its fossilized nature, and this artifact, dating back around 1,200 years, holds the distinction of being the largest human coprolite ever recorded.
