Newcastle 2-0 winners over Chelsea this morning at Stamford Bridge.

Check out Papiss Demba Cisse's goal. He's just taking the piss. :D

Too many results need to go our way, but overall - a ripping season. So definitely can't complain.

Result was disappointing, but we've come a long way in the last 18 months. :thumbsu:

Strengthen the squad and look forward to 2013.

Great season when at the start I was simply hoping to finish mid table and avoid the drop.

I mean in the past a 2-1 loss against the league leaders would of been a good result - Now I am actually pissed we didn't get a point.

No matter what happens on Sunday night we have had an amazing season.
This.

From where we where a couple of years ago I'm absolutely stoked we've managed to get into the Europa League let alone the possibility of Champions Leagues.

Well done to Pard, he's been amazing.

What are peoples thoughts on what Newcastle need to get back up the ladder?
What I think they need is a decent Center Attacking Mid, as i have been watching them a lot this year and they really have no really decent passers and they give up a lot of turnovers in the forward half.

We already have the talent in midfield we just need to get them fit, HBA and Cabaye, and now with Obertan looking in decent form if they can all be in the same side at the same time we will move up the ladder.

Our two biggest problems are our defense, and some help for Ba (if he stays, which looks likely), and at least it seems we are going to get Debuchy to help out down back.

I wouldn't mind seeing Cisse leave myself, as harsh as that is, because he and Ba simply can't play together against the better teams it seems.

Big few games coming up, we need to get something against Everton, win the FA Cup tie against Brighton then get some wins against the likes of Reading, Villa and Norwich before the euro knockout round begins in mid feb.

We will survive the drop, that much I am confident about, but to be competitive next year we will need to improve the depth of the squad, even if we are likely not to be in Europe.

I agree we have a decent midfield, but mostly a defensive midfield. We don't really have a goal scoring mid, with Ben Arfa and Cabaye out it shows a lot. Our passing ability really lacks up forward with those 2 out so definitely depth is needed. The defense definitely needs another CB. A few games i have watched we have had to play Simpson there, he does definitely give it a crack there back he just doesn't have the size. The Ba and Cisse thing is hard, because they really need to wait to see what Ba does, but he is def the first option. So I am def not against getting rid of Cisse for some talent as they really do struggle together. But lets hope Ba stays.

Also Obertan and Marveaux are playing very well at the moment IMO

Really happy with our recruitment drive last month.

Sissoko looks like a beast midfielder and I've been impressed with Gouffran - his hold up play and pace is so good. Debuchy at RB will offer us more than Simpson and M'Biwa will be a starter in time - as long as he keeps Williamson away from a CB position I'm happy!

Cabaye coming back has been huge and HBA should be back before Southampton in 2 weeks. Throw in the return of Tiote, Anita and Marveaux and our midfield is suddenly stacked. Jonas, Obertan, Bigirama for depth.

Cisse is a great finisher, give him the supply like we did last season and he will score. HBA and Cabaye were/are our best attacking midfielders and throw in Sissoko who has 2 goals and 2 assists in 3 games already and he should have no shortage of decent chances once the team gels.

We only have 1 more tough away game in City but given the title race is all but over, maybe they will lack motivation... Let's hope for a good Europa run (Metalist and Hannover/Anzhi I think in the second game are beatable) and a top 10 league finish to build momentum for next season :thumbsu:

Vive le toon!

Good win this morning for the lads. Goala Ameobi with the pen. Krul probably Man of the match with some quality saves. Rested quite a few of the regulars (probably for Southampton this weekend) but got the result we wanted. A bit of justice after Cisse had 2 goals incorrectly ruled for offside in the first leg.

Bring on Southampton this weekend and then Anzhi. :thumbsu:

good result this morning with the lads getting a 0-0 draw at Anzhi. More impressive when you consider than no team has previously avoided defeat and Anzhi have only conceded 1 goal playing at home. With a team with no first choice players including Colo, Cisse, Debuchy (ineligible), Krul and Gutierrez, the guys resisted a pretty formidable Anzhi team with relative ease.

We should be favourites to win the home leg and go through - working in our favour, Anzhi are second in the league and still fighting in their national cup comp so maybe be more concerned winning those/or stretched and fatigued by the added fixtures.

Now to crush Stoke Sunday night - Howay the lads!

More injuries fellas. With Debuchy now out for a month and Ben Arfa out for the season, it's going to be really hard to do much in the Europa League. I know that Ben Arfa has been hardly involved this season but he would've such a big difference.

Hopefully Cabayes groin will be ok in time to play next weekend.

Injuries... Story of the season...

Yeah, the injuries seem to be piling up again – a real shame Haidara got injured as he looks promising and probably could have got some games with Santon moving to rb taking Debuchy’s place. Thankfully we look just about safe and only have 1 tough away game left (this weekend vs City who are in all sorts of trouble anyway). Luckily Colocinni is apparently on the mend and we have some ok options if Cabaye doesn’t get fit in time – guys like Marveaux and Anita are just waiting for a chance to get back into the team.

As I mentioned in the Europa league thread on the soccer board, while Benfica should be favourites, think we can give them a game. They are fighting with Porto for the title and probably are still in the equivalent cup competition so maybe will put a lower emphasis on this competition. If we can get a draw or even snag an away goal, it would be awesome.

Now it will probably be Santon back to LB and Simpson/Anita slotting back into RB which is not the best but still ok. I don't like Anita, stil too weak to be playing in the premierleague, especially as a CM, prefer him to be playing as a full back if anything. Marveaux is quality, can easily slot into Ben Arfa's role, he has the confidence now to finish the season off strong.

We will definitely give Benfica a game, if we can come away with an away goal or a 1-0 loss, i will be quietly confident when we play at St.James.
