As for getting Bradley, I know we have the talls but everyone is pinning their hopes on Smith, Gasper and McDouglas.
Now we know why you post so rarely.

Re: Who from our best 22 should we consider trading?

I really don't think we need to be too aggressive with regard to trading. I think it's worth remembering that alot of our blokes are still very young in a footballing sense. If we can keep our current list together for the next few years I really think that Hansen/Lynch/Staker/McDuougall etc will stand up and our good team will be even stronger.

I particularly don't see any merit in trading Fletcher (or any other midfielder) for a CHF/FF as that will just create more pressure on our midfield group. Our midfield is the group holding this team together and we need to build around that, not take things away from it.

I'd like to see us go after Fevola and Pickett

I'm sure a lot of people will disagree, but I reckon these two would really add something to our side.

We're not far away from a flag, and we've got a young list. A couple of top-ups could give us that extra 10%.

I don't know what we'd have to part with to get them, but I'd be prepared to give up a fair bit, especially for Fevola.

I'd say that Cousins, Kerr, Judd, Cox and Embley would be the only players I wouldn't trade. Wirrpunda, Chick, Glass, Hunter, Matera and Gardiner are unlikely to be traded for other reasons. Everyone else and all our picks would be on the table.

But a combination of Selwood, Sampi, Fletcher, Nicoski, Butler, Staker, Seaby and McDougall, packaged with our draft picks might allow us to net these two guys.

Thoughts? Don't just shoot me down instinctively. These guys could offer us something, and if the right offer was made, we should be very open-minded about it.

Long time no hear Gunnar?

I wouldn't discount any of the above, so long as it works in WCE favour, naturally.

The biggest problem with Fev (exluding all the rubbish) is his salary. Is it $350 - $400K a Year? Carlton would have to pay a % of his salary for him to fit inder our cap, and we'd have dump a high'ish profile player off as well.

Pickett - Unless he comes dirt, dirt cheap... not interested. He would give us depth, yes he's a hard nut but its adding to our overbundance of midfielders. Great player in previous years, but getting too close to 30 for my liking.

I've been meditating all week in preparation for tonight. I'm going to need all the inner calm I can muster.

Chad Fletcher. Trade him for the highest draft pick which we can then on-trade with Daniel McConnell to Carlton.

Sign him on a 2-year deal and play him as a permanent HFF whose brief is to smash defenders and to apply forward-line pressure.

Re: I'd like to see us go after Fevola and Pickett

I wouldnt be interested in either. We've seen other sides try the top-up plan and fail miserably. In all honesty, I think our KP forward stocks next year will be sufficient given we have less injuries and a solid pre-season.

Re: I'd like to see us go after Fevola and Pickett

whats wrong with Fletcher?? The guy has been cold for about a month if not longer. Is he carrying a injury??

Re: I'd like to see us go after Fevola and Pickett

Wouldn't touch either of them. Fevola is a headcase, thats why he is being traded. Mind as well trade for Polhack! Coincidently, these 2 headcases had a run-in during the offseason. No one should be surprised that they are both on the chopping block.

Pickett of 5 years ago would have been a handy pickup. He is getting a bit old now and he can't do anything these days without getting rubbed out for 2-3 weeks. The new tribunal has nullified his potential intimidation factor. Not worth it.

Agree with you on Pickett. Fevola could be answer to our forward line problems but i would be tempted to let Smith have a go at full forward as that is what we recruited him for.

Re: I'd like to see us go after Fevola and Pickett

I have two follow-up questions to everyone on this thread who is saying neither Fevola nor Pickett are worth trading for:

1) We have a couple of holes in our side. What are they, and can our existing list cover them sufficiently for us to be even stronger in 2006-08?

2) Who should we target this post-season?

If you're turning your noses up at Pickett and Fevola, I assume you have some pretty compelling, well-developed answers to these questions.

What makes you think the eagles will chase after a high profile player? We won't have the salary cap space to fit in a high profile signing, and in all likelyhood we may soon have to offload a couple top players relatively cheap.
If the eagles do trade this year, it will probably be offloading some fringe players for draft pick upgrades.

You didn't answer either of my questions.

How's Chad Fletcher going against the Swans?

1. We package Daniel McConnell and our first pick (14-18) and upgrade. We take the highest pick we can get from a Victorian team. Let's assume we get a top 10 pick.

2. We package Chad Fletcher with that top 10 pick and we go after an established key forward. I reckon Fevola is the way to go.

Gardiner for Fevola, Simple.
Carlton would have to be nuts to go for that. Get real.

1. We package McConnell with our first pick and upgrade, hypothetically, to pick 10.

2. We offer Carlton Chad Fletcher and that pick (#10) for Fevola.

At least Gardiner can take a grab. Fletcher is a disgrace and is the worst kind of passenger.

Tend to agree with you there. Tonight we've been found out without a quality forward. Mind you I wouldn't class Fevola as a qaulity forward, but he does posses huge potential.
He can lead.

He can mark.

He can kick.

Who else do we have who ticks those three boxes?

Fevola would be the ideal forward for West Coast and will straighten them up.Good forwards are like gold especially in finals and its hard to see West Coast go all the way unless they can find a key forward

What are you, like 12yrs old? What I wrote renders your question irrelevant. Why would I bother answering it if I believe the eagles won't be in the market for a high profile player to start with?

I agree with that except we should do our best to keep McConnell, Fletcher + our first rounder is still enough to land us a decent key forward.

Pick 18 won't be enough.

We need to upgrade it by packaging it with McConnell, who is going anyway.

Get real.
