The umpiring of the AFL needs to seriously be looked at.

I am so proud of the Carlton Football Club tonight, gave absolutely everything and withstood relentless Eagle attacks and pressure, the way the minnows stood up was just incredible.

I am not making excuses here. I hate excuses. But trying to be as objective as possible here, the umpiring standard of AFL football games, is an absolute disgrace. I think Blighty called it when he said there were 36 free kicks in the first half, and only (I think it was four) in the last quarter.

The amount of soft, and gutless freee kicks, paid both ways mind you, was an absolute disgrace, and how they can "suddenly" put away the whistle in the last and throw all "consistency" out the window is beyond me. The game in the last quarter was frenetic, amazing, hard and unforgiving.

Why would they not just do this the whole game. Stupid game influencing decisions are killing the game.

If you want consistency, umpire the whole game in the same ****ing manner. Perhaps this is open to further discussion after heated postgame analysis is over or whatnot, I just feel that it irked me the whole game. It's a ****ing final, LET THE GAME GO.

To Carlton, I still love you to no end. I respect that performance so much, and looking forward to an even better 2012- CAR17ON is coming.

Carlton got everything in the first quarter, West Coast got everything in the second, West Coast got the half-chance ones in the second half, Carlton had to work their arses off for a free.

How in the hell Duigan didn't have his mark paid or be given a free kick, or Walker be paid that mark straight in front, I will never know.

I feel sickened by the result, not because I know West Coast out-played us, but we were never given a fair chance. It's simply bullshit.

I even though a dockers fan, am really annoyed at the umpires too. You should have won this game if the umpiring was consistent. Andrew Walker being held in the goal square made me absolutely ropable. When we lost to WCE in a close match we also deserved a free kick in the goalsquare as McpHarlin was held and deserved a frre kick for high contact. On these cases the best team doesn't win but the umpires decide who does. If those two incidents were in the first three quarters free kicks would have been given. I just wish the umpires had the courage to make the right decision. The worst thing of all is the Giesch will congratulate the umpires on there wonderful decision to let the game go, rather than accept the umpires were wrong.

I agree that the decisions went both ways, but just sat back yelling at the umpires to let them play the game.

Then I realised we had Razor Ray. I don't know the name of any other umpires. But this clown uses the whistle to promote himself and not the decisions that should be paid.

Umpires, pull your heads in and let the players PLAY the game.

nothing is going to change the game is over. west coast won carlton lost the umpires were fair. come on now be respectful in defeat and stop looking for every excuse

Did you read the thread? How is a call for consistency unfair?

It didn't effect the result - just the game as a spectacle.
This, a hundred times this. I only really ever yelled "GO BLUES" during the match- except for about 10 times when I would yell, "LET THE ****ING GAME RUN".

It's a disgusting trait in our game. These "umpires" are a farce.

I don't get why they can't just let the footballers play football. Half of the frees paid tonight didn't need to be called.

What irritates me most about the umps is that they didn't give us a fair chance, and West Coast for that matter, to play each other. Instead, it was attempting to defeat one another whilst evoiding the wrath of the umpire. That's not the way footy should be.

That guy deserves a red for using 'yous'.

Umpiring was fairly poor both ways. I don't actually mind the whistle being put away, it was commended in the grand final series last year. The thing is, it does need to be consistent and I think that's the only major gripe we have today with umpires.

Out of bounds deliberately, push in the back, holding the ball and incorrect disposal; I don't necessarily think the official adjudication that should occur in a circumstance is necessarily correct. The problem is, I could live with it if it didn't change from week to week, game to game and even quarter to quarter.

I still side with Roos & co. in believing that full time umpires could at least alleviate this problem a bit.

Rugby Union has the same issues - refs blowing the game up every time a tiny technical breach is made. So disappointing. Early in the game you'd have thought the umpires were trying to get votes by their enthusiasm to be centre stage. Drives me insane.

i personally thought it was umpired well. like carlton supporters were saying to collingwood after the geelong loss and controversial advantage to pendles. If you were good enough you wouldnt have been in a position to loose. You guys had a solid lead after the first and couldnt hold on. You finished 5th on the ladder and are the 5th best side of the year. Nothing to be upset about. You had kreuzer gibbs and waite out. Surely theyre worth at least 4 points. Injuries are painful in september. You guys will recover and im sure will be better for the experience. Chins up!

Yes the umpiring was rubbish, but we sound like Essendon supporters starting threads about umpires after a loss.

I've said pretty much all that there is to say in zee's thread, but I will add that I was really contemplating not coming online tonight, because I knew that after the robbery that we saw tonight, we would get a few Eagles fans in here saying "the game was called perfectly fairly, don't look for excuses". That pisses me off so much, because as has been said by fans of half a dozen other teams on this board tonight, we were absolutely bent over and r*ped. If the roles had been reversed, and Carlton had won after getting the game handed to them, those same Eagles fans would be pointing out the exact same bullshit that we are now.

Face it Eagles fans, the two teams are very close in talent and it would have been a great game if they called it fairly. I actually predicted a close Eagles win before the game, but I didn't think you would need the whistle in your favour all night. With a full team and fair calls, we would have blown you out of the water tonight. Still, as ****ing pathetic as the calls were, not to mention the hilarious claims that the umpires were "fair", the game is over and now we have to look forward to flogging you again next year. I just can't wait to see the Eagles get r*ped next week. It really wouldn't matter which team you played next week, as if there is any team that gets the calls more than the Eagles did tonight, it's the Cats and Magpies. It's going to be a special kind of awesome to watch you get smashed next week. You can call me bitter if you want, but I'm not. I just want games to be decided by the players, not by umpires with bribe money in their back pocket. All we can do is hope that the AFL makes some big changes before next season.

I can understand blaming the umps for a three point loss, Essendon supporters, however, blamed the umps for a ten goal loss. You've still got a ways to go before you get to their standard ;)

I never blamed the "umpires" for our loss. I never sooked nor whinged. I love how we played, just the rollercoaster that is umpiring a game of AFL football is terrible and must stop. Especially in finals.

I feel your pain mate.

Bring on cricket season.

Maybe if pro's they would be screened and attention seekers rejected :thumbsu:

Think the umpiring for both games this weekend was really bad. The standard has def dropped. Razor should never umpire again - he is a major liability.

There were 34 frees paid in the first half and 17 in the second, even though the game went up 3 notches in the second half. That is why the umpiring was poor, not because the decisions affected one team or the other, because they're incapable of umpiring consistently in a final.

No can we please lock this thread. It's embarrassing.

LOOK AT ME " razor ray" was shit for both teams ... for us was the gaols in the 2nd qtr all on the line prob 3 where they goals or points... Either way the boys had a real crack and im pretty sure the cats where going for the eagles... They didnt want us at the G

no comment about walker being r*ped in the goalsquare

You make a valid discussion point then wish to have the thread closed

Supporters bitching about umpires is part of this game, it may be embarrassing if coaches do it - but then again the premiership coach has never had any qualms about doing it.
