A lot will come down to a club encouraging Billy to nominate for the PSD. We won't stand in his way. If Billy stays Stewart and Willsmore will get the chop.

Best available at 43 leaning towards an outside runner with balls.

CJ at 68, Glass elevated with 75.

Rookie list Olango and Langford.

Stewart delisted? Why?

Just to confirm, and salary cap allowing, we only need to delist 1 player prior to the draft to make the mandatory 3 selections if we choose to go with a full list of 40 senior listed players next season. Roughead and Birchall can be added to the veteran's list, and if we don't plan on adding and delisted free agents (Wrighty has come out and said he expects that to be the case) or upgrade any rookies (Glass, Cousins and Hanrahan signed rookie extensions) - I think we may only have to delist 1 player??

We only had 39 this season which is already 1 free spot, we lost Hodge and Gibson and picked up Impey.

If they is the case and we are only required to delist 1 and those other variables don't change (salary cap, DFA's, rookies upgrades), there is no doubt that player will be Willsmore - if he hasn't been already.

It was changed a few years ago.
Clubs need 3 list changes now, not 3 draft picks (was to encourage trading)

If clubs have 3 retirements and pick up 3 players during free agency/trade time, they technically don’t need to have any picks

Are you certain about this?

I know that the AFL began to allow rookie upgrades to count as draft picks, but I thought the total of upgrades and picks needed to be 3, regardless of trades.

If you could find a link to this, I would appreciate it.

You are right, a club must have a minimum of 3picks on draft night

I stand to be corrected but this was my understanding as well. There were a minimum of 3 picks on the night and can be a combination of draft selections and rookie upgrades.

No veterans list anymore

you guys are friggin' mental if you think getting rid of Stewart is a good idea.
I really like Stewart’s attack and aggression, but he needs more to become AFL quality, and I don’t see it
Much in the same way I like Heatherley’s agro, but that alone isn’t enough these days

Heatherley can be a lock down negating defender
Stewart needs to add some strings to his bow

Be very happy for Stewart to prove me wrong!

Regarding Jiath.

Assuming he is not bid on before our 1st pick
we have pick #68 which is worth 59 points.

Our other picks don't have any points attached to them.

So having said that if a bid for Jiath comes after our 1st pick and before pick #67 (1 pick prior to our 2nd) we will not have enough points to match even with the 20% discount.

We can go into points deficit next year if need be in order to match a bid.

That's my understanding anyway.

I don't think Jiath will get a bid. He's talented but he's also extremely raw - players like that go extremely late or in the rookie draft. It's not unrealistic to compare him to Ben Jarman last year - except Jiath is extremely athletic and inconsistent by foot whereas Jars was great by foot but average athletically.

It is quite baffling to me that when you look at our list (which finished 12th) you see plenty of guys who could/should be playing seniors who most likely will be stuck at Box Hill.

I am assuming this is the senior team...

B: Stratton, Frawley, Burton
HB: Birchall, Brand, Sicily
C: Smith, Burgoyne, O'Meara
HF: Breust, O'Brien, Gunston
F: Rioli, Roughead, Puopolo
R: McEvoy, Mitchell, Shiels
INT: Impey, Howe, Hardwick, Langford.

Which means ...

These players who really should be exposed to senior football (up to 10 games) for development will, in all likelihood, be stuck at Box Hill (4 players):

O'Rourke (23yo, 18gm), Lovell (20yo, 2gm), Glass (20yo, 6gm), Pittonet (21yo, 3gm).

These players who are all capable of playing seniors will be stuck at Box Hill (7 players):
Duryea (101gm), Hartung (50gm), Ceglar (50gm), Henderson (108gm), Schoenmakers (112gm), Whitecross (105gm), Vickery (125gm).

These players should probably be getting a few senior games however they are almost no chance given who is ahead of them on the list (4 players):
Cousins (20yo, 3gm), Morrison (19yo, 1gm), Stewart (21yo, 7gm), Miles (21yo, 4gm).

These players are still on the outer and will, in all likelihood, not be be under consideration (3 player):
Lewis (19yo, 0gm) Hanrahan (19yo, 0gm), Nash (19yo, 0gm).

I am assuming these guys will be delisted (2 players):
Heatherley (23yo, 5gm).
Willsmore (22yo, 2gm).

That means the selection committee basically have to fit 34 players into 22 spots every week and at the same time worry about team balance.

I will be very interested to see what team has cemented itself as the best 22 by the end of the season.

The discount is locked to pick 18 which is about 185 points so any bid below about 57 will be 0 points and can be matched with your last pick.

Did you intentionally leave out Billy Hartung?
