if he'd been fit to field, I doubt any of this would have arisen, typically captain selfish now forcing his selfish ways in the Sydney grade competition.

One could also argue that the Wests players are there competing to win and deserve better than to forgo first innings points in such a fashion. At the end of the day, Grade Cricket is there to act as a feeder league for State cricket, which does the same for the International stage.
One could argue, just like Cook is, that what he has chosen to do is the right thing going by the very purpose of having Grade cricket.
I also can't understand why at the toss Cook would tell the opposition captain he was going to declare, thus meaning if Parra won the toss they were going to make Wests bat and secure the six points. Why not just wait and see what happened? Parra probably would've batted if they won the toss cause I don't think they were expecting this to happen. And if Wests won the toss they could put Parra in.... And why declare after 10 overs? Why not declare at 0/0 if he was going to.
This whole incident is bizarre.
It was stated in an article that Cook told the opposition he'd be declaring if Wests batted. The opposition captain said "We're here for the six points" and thus sent Wests in.I don't think he did, they exchanged team sheets thus the opposition captain clearly sees Clarke is playing but next week only, so he makes the smart decision to bowl as they only have 10 players and you wouldn't want to defend any total if the Aussie test captain is playing the following week
There is no way they could have hidden it, you have to declare your team before the toss at every level
The selectors have backed themselves into a corner here - can't have double standards for Harris & Clarke. The Harris situation is quite interesting.
He is trusted enough that if he declares himself fit he plays.
He said he needed a whole match but he got 13 overs.
Should he be able to play grade cricket this weekend in Queensland?
Would be 5 days before the test and his team would need to bowl.

Take it as read, Michael Clarke and Rod Marsh aren't talking at the moment and haven't done much since the second Pakistan Test when Clarke did no get the team he wanted. There was more to the funky fields on day 1 then you might think.
Imagine getting told that you're Captaining a test match and Maxwell is going to be your test number 3.
Can't blame him for being unhappy
Not correct, he was told Maxwell was into the side and was batting 3 after Clarke had publicly campaigned for the retention of Doolan and SOK.i was of the impression clarke batted maxwell at 3 as an up yours to selectors for having him in the side
i was of the impression clarke batted maxwell at 3 as an up yours to selectors for having him in the side
That is more likely why he was made to keep wicket.
Just repeating what one of the insiders on this board has already alluded to.Maxwell? Would have thought it was just a matter of them wanting to give Warner a break because he had to open soon, and there being no real other option.
