The war chest?

Haha!
That's Awesome!!!

Greedy player? You say that with a negative connotation to it. Why is it bad for a player to seek out the maximum salary that someone is willing to pay him? Especially when you consider the lifespan of an AFL players career.

I'm sure within your profession, you would like to be paid the maximum value that you are worth too. Does that mean you are greedy?

Look at the bold bit, something may dawn on you.

If you were the CEO of a listed company everyone would know. High value salaries are a material risk to a business and so dosclosure is a regulatory requirement. Given the importance of prudent salary cap management I do find it strange that there is such opposition disclosing player wages. Members can't make an informed decision on the board if they don't have the key information. This is part of the reason you end up with clubs which dwell in ineptitude for decades at a time.

Great in theory, but I doubt raising the pressure to perform on player's based on their pay packet has ever increased performance. Sometimes it goes the other way. Took Buddy a while to find his feet in Sydney, and he still shits himself playing us.

These guys are football players, not workers who can see gains in productivity by working harder. For the most part they're close to overworking themselves. See Shane Crawford post Brownlow win for net results of that theory.

Hang it all out there, and you can undermine the idea that this extra information would help list management and performance reviews. It can actually hurt value at the coalface.

The slippery slope in knowing what a player gets paid is that you start to let their payments dictate their performance, in that if player X is getting paid amount X then he should be performing at level X. Where as it should be the other way around, the way is currently is, whereby if a player is performing at a certain level and contributing to the club in a certain way, then they should be getting paid a certain amount.

Its the current problem the NBA has where players are being expected to perform at a certain level due to the amount of salary they're on.

I think Clarko is easily more intelligent than those four interviewing him combined. We are so lucky that he is the Coach of Hawthorn and hope he adds to his four Premierships in his many years to come leading the Mighty Hawks to Glory

I think they all knew it too. They didnt interrupt him and didnt talk over him and let him speak freely about whatever he wanted.

Probably my favourite interview of the year.

Clarko thinks Dusty isn't worth a million per annum ?

He thinks he isnt worth more than a million. Im sure he would have happily paid $1m :D

The other thing is contract length. We offered Buddy 5 years x $1m which is not even in the same ballpark as up to $1.5m over 9 years.

just have to look at how Ty's alleged pay packet comes up every time someone wants to complain about him to know that is true

We might be saving space for next season. Tom Lynch and Andrew Gaff are both free agents then... :D
See above for Tom Lynch. He will get 1.5 million a season thrown at him by some teams, e.g the Pies and Blues. Unless he decides to come to us for significantly less or we weaken our stance on the maximum we are willing to pay for one player.

Tom Lynch at the moment isn't worth any thing close to that sort of money, lazy selfish footballer.

Don't think anyone is but he will get a massive pay rise whatever he decides. I think he is a massive team player, works hard but was clearly carrying an injury this year.

Tom Lynch?
We will have to agree to disagree there. I've watched a fair bit of him live and he is pretty lazy when he thinks he doesn't have a chance to get the ball.

You need to watch a player closely live at a game to truly understand their work rate so I will bow to your judgement there. Like I said he definitely carried an injury this year which has a flow on effect with regard to work rate, so I think you should cut him slack. He is a beast of young man who would compliment our forward line beautifully, but like I mentioned earlier we won't offer a contract as large as other clubs so he is unlikely to land at the Hawks unfortunately.

Sit tight.
Be confident.

Buddy left four years ago. We have won two flags since then, so many of our players have earned substantial rewards. So this "Buddy Money" theory is well past it's use-by date.

If you have real inside info, then please... tell us the details.
Otherwise, stop pretending you know something.

When it all comes out into the open, I'm pretty confident we'll be in a good position.
