Ok, here's two attendances from footy matches yesterday:

1) 11,827
2) 9,128

One of which is the attendance of the match between North Melbourne and St Kilda in a city which is soon to get its very own AFL team.
The other is the attendance of the Glenelg vs Sturt SANFL state league match.

Try to guess which one's which!

It's still better than some of the NRL figures.

Penrith v Canberra- Rnd 2- CUA Stadium: 7,503

Melbourne v Cronulla- Rnd 2- Olympic Park Stadium (Melbourne): 10,720

And that's just matches from 1 round.

I think it's just lack of enthuasiasim.

Gold coast Titans = soon to be defunct
You goose the Titans are absolutely flying, averaging over 20k per game and sold the most merchandise in the NRL last year.
Have made some fantastic investments.
If the same game last night was played in Adelaide would they have got anymore than 10k? not likely.
As long as the team is competitive from the start the Coast will go ok.

BINGO !!!!

Finally, somebody with some common sense in this thread !

Think about it, why would the majority of Gold Coast AFL supporters turn up to a game that involves 2 Victorian teams, one which (rightly or wrongly) turned their back on relocating to the region ? There is absolutely nothing to be gained by getting behind the KANGAROOS now that they have made their intentions known. But I can tell you that there is a big buzz already for the new team here and once they officially kick off the crowds will come. Just this weekend both the front and back pages of the GC Bulletin had full coverage of last nights match, with a giant full page photo of GCs favorite son, Nick Reiwoldt, and every day there is an ongoing section devoted to the naming and jumper design/colors of the new team. So the media is not afraid to push the sport up here. That is a massive head start.

Remember not so long ago when BRISBANE first started up. There was no media attention, the crowds were deplorable and it certainly seemed like a huge mistake by the AFL. But just 2 decades later and they are one of the most consistent teams of the comp and have 3 flags under their belt. If this new team can get some reasonable success early on then the fans will show up. Obviously they won't get huge crowds straight away, that will take a few seasons, but there will be a loyal supporter base from day one, no question about it. I for one will be showing my support for them. Of course I'm ADELAIDE CROWS first and always will be, but I will definitely be following the GC team with great interest and attending all the games that I can.

Trust me, the AFL would not be investing all this time and money if they hadn't done their homework first. Just don't expect 25,000 every single game. Christ, even PORT don't get that !
