IMO the best midfielders in the game have the ability to stand perfectly still and have players scared of moving towards them in case they get sidestepped.

They do it by feigning to move or by feigning to handball. It gives them an extra few seconds to assess their options and make the right decision.

I think Hill has that quality. He rarely misses targets, even in congestion and can often release a teammate into space.

But he does his biggest damage when he's released into space.

Make no mistake. If we didn't take him at 3, Essendon were taking him at 5.

I'm not really into this Hill vs Rich suff ...both (and trio with the looks of Ziebel) are on track to be very good players.

I agree it should not even come up. A lot of rookies are doing really well and that is good.

Hill is his own man and fits perfectly into our team. A cracking performance. I woke up and watched the highlights just to watch his efforts. An excitement machine.

There were so many passages of play that impressed me regarding Hill, one was a kick to Embley on their defensive half back flank; Hill looked like he was behind Embley, then somehow he was in front of him. I had to rewind and watch the play again because I couldn't believe what I saw. He ran on a sharper angle to the ball, beat Embley for pace and cut the ball off where any normal player would've struggled to spoil Embley from behind in that situation. Amazing.

He is a weapon, I might have a flutter on him for the RS.

The more I see this kid, and the more I think of his future, I think Stephen Hill in the end will just be Stephen Hill, this kid could be a legend in his own right.

did you notice the players also had the confidence to kick to him. He often was one out and he still got the ball... me thinks Harvey told some of the guys to use him as an option on the wing, and the players were honoring it.

I also think it is a case of if you kick it in his direction, he has such a kick that he will get to it .....players like players who make them look good.

I had a Croat 3point shooting guard who always got the ball when he was free ...ball in his hand gave me a great chance of chalking up another assist.

We are all just selfish B's at the end of the day.

Watching the game again - Embley's 50 m penalty against Hill was simply him panicking that Hill was going to go around him again. Great stuff.

Or the Fox pre game guys on Sunday who were watching the highlights and didn't appear to even know who he was until one of them identified him as "Josh Hill"

Being a South Aussie and someone that has watched a crap load of the Crows i tend to be comparing him to McLeod more then anyone else, i guess the same goes for you WA guys with the Matera comparisons.
He moved very much like McLeod for mine, although Hill seems to have a much longer stride due to his height. They just glide along the ground, seemingly just cruising but still running away from their opponent.
His kicking is very similar to McLeod as well at the same age, more penetration in Hills now then Bunj has but at a similar time pretty much the same.
The one thing Hill does that i have never seen much of from McLeod is he tackles, McLeod is very much a reciever while the outside game Hill has is so impressive he is more then happy mixing it up in the packs and burrowing around for the ball.

If he has a career anywhere near as successful as McLeod or Long or Matera did i will be delighted.

Meanwhile, Daniel Rich has already regressed. Jokes!!!!!
