Things you once did that you now look back on and cringe

How emotionally invested I'd get in football.

Seemed a massive thing in my early twenties. I look back on some of it now and cringe is absolutely what comes to mind.

Yeah I think even two or three years ago I saw it as some extension of my personality and purpose. but living in Freo and seeing the calibre of person who was a SuperFan was absolutely embarrassing; people clapping points and only knowing 'Freddy' because he was, um, recognisable. made me realise football supporters, it's like that horseshoe theory: both ****in suck up, blind, one-eyed idiots but one sect's mouth breathers and the other are soy trendies.

I just like following the game now, take far more enjoyment out of a team I don't mind playing in a really close game than I do in Freo blanketing a four goal win.

It also takes an insane amount of time out of your schedule. if you work all week you want to enjoy the time you're not bound to a shit keyboard or some shitty processing system in a cold warehouse and the idea of ruling out a big block of your weekend to watch them is not worth it.

i remember early 2000s, they had these nice blue adidas sports pants that had half leg zip downs, at Rebel. I'd wear it to Basketball/Soccer, i'd also wear them to pubs every so often. They were borderline flares at the bottom legs...

it was before tighter/stretch/regular pants were back in fashion, i think pants were still baggy-ish up until at least 2006/07.

the top half of me was fine, cool t-shirt, shirt whatever, lol.

.......it was a different time, ok.

But yeh, I cringe now, only because trends changed.

The NBA draft fashions are the best. These are events where the draftees would have stylists and tailors to make sure they looked sharp and this is how they looked in 2003. What chance did anyone else have?

I clocked out at the end of (the Eagles) 2020 season. I went from extremely invested all my life to no interest at all during that off season, the shitshow being the 2020 season/year really started the cycle though. I have better things to do with my time and life out of work than spend three hours watching 46 twenty somethings play some footy. I still check scores for the Eagles regularly online and watch the grand final each year.

I couldn't have picked a better time to clock out in all honesty, the last three seasons must've been horrid for die hard supporters.

I try to convince myself that I don't care as much any more but then you get a result like one we had against Port and I realise that the fire still burns.

It's difficult to gauge for a Geelong supporter as we haven't been dreadful to the level of already being out of finals contention by the time Winter hits for over 20 years. I think it's easier to tune the poor performances when it's clear that you're cruising to a sub-six win season.

I feel as though I'm ready for the inevitable drop and that I'm quite prepared for the odd winless month over the next few years, but while we're still fighting for positions in the top four/top eight, a first half like what we put on last night still gets the old blood boiling
