So yesterday it was confirmed that AFLX will debut next year a week before the JLT pre-season competition. The rules of an AFLX game are:
— Soccer-size rectangular pitch

— Trial games have been played between teams of seven (plus three on the bench)

— Fast, free-flowing footy

— One umpire, no centre bounces, kick-ins from full-back after goals

— Quarters of 10 minutes

— 10 points for goals outside 40m

— Ex-stars could bolster AFL teams in pre-season carnival
The Hawks will be in group 2 playing 2-3 games at Etihad Stadium on the 16th of February against either Melbourne, North Melbourne, St Kilda, Carlton or Essendon. The games will potentially be broadcast on channel 7 (deal in progress)

How is 'fast, free-flowing footy' a rule? Do you get a free kick against if you slow the game down?
It's how the game is supposed to work. But no you don't get a free kick against you if you slow the game down. Just to answer your sarcastic comment.

Not a fan. Can only increase the risk of long-term injuries to key players.

I know Rugby 7s has been successful, but that is only because it is a global game. Even then, there are very few, if any, test players in that form of the game.

Leave our ****ing game alone. Or at least use players that are not on AFL lists.

Think it’s a load of sh*t to be honest, more important things for the AFL to be looking at rather than trying to create hybrid games in the hope that other countries will notice us, let’s focus on OUR game

Haha, putting it a week before the preseason in the hope it has extra people tuning who are just craving footy after the offseason.

Can't see the point of it from a club POV. If they want the players to have a run, they'll play them in the preseason comp the next week. If they want the play a player, but can't fit them all in the preseason game, they'll get a proper run through in the VFL preseason and/or intraclub game.

No

Fairly cringeworthy the AFL attempting to basically invent a new sport just for the sake of directly competing with other codes (A-League, Big Bash League/Twenty20, Rugby 7's etc)
Just a stupid idiotic business/marketing idea that someones come up with to justify their job.

Why don't the AFL spend their money on something useful instead of this hybrid drivel. Professionising the umpire department for instance and raise the qualifications from being able to run backwards and blow a whistle to something equating across the board competence
