As clarko says we are in this together

That seems so familiar but I just can't quite place it...

You won't find me bashing our individual players, or changing teams, but quite frankly, for whatever reasons... the giving up is un-Hawthorn like and they need to quit it. I wouldn't give a flying fig if we lost every game this year, so long as there was genuine effort. I've turned the games off the last two weeks early in the fourth, because the effort was gone, and I won't submit myself to that tripe. That is two times more in one year than a life time (and my main years of supporting Hawthorn were the down years until this recent era of success) I have turned the game off.

I won't waste my time watching witches hats. I will however come back each week to see if the effort has improved.

I don't think that's fair. Players are making the effort individually, but aren't being led or directed. Hodge showed the way last week, but too little support from the younger cohort.

And what's the real reason? Why do we have a raft of 21-25 year olds who have played less than 50 games? Answer: We've been competing for premierships, with no time to properly support our younger players and build their confidence and experience. We have relied on Box Hill to be a training ground which produces young players who are ready to play a senior role.

I have faith that those younger players will eventually learn how to lead this team together, I have no honest idea how much time it will take. I'll follow Clarko and the players though, and say it'll be sooner rather than later.

Go Hawks

Clarko is too smart a coach (and a person) - he's got a plan and it's on the way. Before the season started, I was looking at about 10 weeks for it to come together, but it may be sooner.

I've felt that Mitchell and O'Meara into our midfield is a huge structural change that needs time. They're not just taking control of a midfield, they're learning a new system.
Plus a changed forward line with Roughie and Vickery.

And new leadership - this is the only part I had doubts about - another year from Hodgey would have given some stability in a transition year.

Stick with us, people, it will get better!

I've watched the games until the final siren. As per Abasi's thread the pressure valve is off. I was more likely to leave/stop watching when we were contending and we put in a bad performance. You have to switch gears as a supporter and look for different things otherwise you're in for a world of pain

Pick a young player and try and find three new/good things they do. Pick a new player like JOM and Tom and see four of five new things they bring to the team.

Think long term - if that kick hit the target what would have happened? Is it easy to turn some of that around?

I have this weird feeling that it won't be hard to turn around - but it won't be next week. It could be the last 6 games of the year.

When and if they start playing well in the last six games of the year which supporter will you be? The one who is surprised or the one who could see it coming because you struck it through?

It's time to take the emotion out basically - it's like a science experiment. Or maybe it's a different emotion - Threepeat Hawthorn is like your lover. This Hawthorn is more like a child which you want to see grow up and become a great adult.

Anyway - I don't get the "give up" fans either. We are so lucky. I feel like I owe this team

i have been a supporter of this club for 40 odd years and what a ride it has been. The club has a very strong culture and a great coach. After some incredible success over the last 8/9 years we have reached a point where we need to move on some ageing warriors and introduce young talent. Time to develop the list and start rebuilding for the next period of success. Clarko is a genius and a great leader of young men.

Self identifying as the newbie here. I've only barracked Hawthorn for three years, but they are the only team I've ever backed. I still consider myself lucky, since I already have seen more Premierships that any of the other guys in our tipping crew. Most of them have been following teams for 10 years or more. Still not sure how I ended up selecting Hawthorn at the beginning of the 2014 season. I was unaware of their previous success, the Buddy saga, etc. Just really was drawn to the way they played the game. I became a member the very next year and plan to renew for the rest of my days, regardless of the team finish. Can't imagine anyone having it better than us!

If the team is cooked, it is because they were in the blaze to begin with. You can't play in 4 consecutive grand finals winning three of them if you don't lose a little bit along the way to attrition. Those following you, in the vanguard, are still reaping the rewards of higher draft picks, longer preseasons and nobody wants to poach their officers.

Those blazing the trail get emulated, drained of personnel, last choice of available manpower and the greatest trophy cabinet anyone could think of.

You can't be cooked if you haven't even been to the stove.

Spot on post - the most exciting time to be a Hawks fan over the last ten years was 2007 - seeing a team start putting it together and knocking over teams who'd previously belted us - no that was worth it and it will happen again sooner rather than later.

I was there in the lean years with the rest of you. I'll be there too for the next bad patch. When we come good again (hopefully sooner rather than later) it is that much sweeter knowing you were there for the lean and the cream.

I have one wish for this year.
Luke Hodge has 11 games remaining for his 300th.
If he plays every game, he plays it against GWS in Tassie.
So i would like Hodgey to pick his target well and get suspended for a week.
he will then play his 300th against Geelong. I would love nothing more then to beat the Cats in his 300th and stuff up their top 4 hopes!

As there has been a member thread started after this, if anyone who has voted in here as a member could you reflect that vote in Universal Love thread so we can get some numbers to bargain HFC with

Thanks
Everybody

Love your thought process Davo...Theres still plenty of rough diamonds in the BHH..O'Rourke needs to come in and let him find his feet,I like Heatherley he will give a contest unlike Chip is atm..Heard plenty of good things about young Cousins from this last draft too..oh and give Fitzy a crak...better than Vickery or Schoe......Gonna steal the Hawks theme from awhile back....PROUD.....PASSIONATE.....PAID UP......GO U HAWKERS

I think what we are missing is younger leaders coming through. For so long we had strong leaders in the club, from Crawford, vanderberg, Hodge, Mitchell and Lewis. At the moment the only young player that appears to be a potential leader is Ryan Burton, with tom Mitchell a possible leader. I'm looking forward to seeing another young player come through with that bit of mongrel in them, may not be the best player, but through their actions, inspires those around them.
